Fulham vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 19th August 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Marco Silva’s Fulham side will be looking to get off to a great start with their 2nd win of the season from two games as they play their first game at home when they take on Brentford. Both clubs are nearby so while this isn’t classified as a derby it may feel like it and be quite an intense affair.

Fulham beat Everton 1-0 away from home on the opening weekend and the Cottagers really like travelling away to the Toffees now, that wasn’t always the case but they have won their last three games at Goodison Park. In fairness the game could have at least finished in a draw and some observers believe that Fulham were lucky to walk away with all three points. However that is the case and for a side who will want to improve on last season getting those points on the board early in the season will be encouraging.

Brentford did well to draw 2-2 at home to a new look Tottenham side even though they were winning the game 2-1. But with new faces in at Tottenham including a new manager and new tactics this game could have been seen as a difficult one for the Bees. Instead Thomas Frank’s side looked fearless and confident at home and produced many chances. Of course so did Tottenham in what was an entertaining game. Question marks will remain over their away form and we will find out a little bit about how that may pan out at the weekend.

Team News:

Fulham: There is just one player concern for the Cottagers in Joao Palhinha who has a shoulder injury but could be assessed and as yet has not been ruled out.

Brentford: Mathias Jensen will be assessed because of a thigh injury, Ben Mee has a calf injury and Frank Onyeka has a dead leg. Ivan Toney is suspended until January.

Fulham vs Brentford Head to Head:

Last season Fulham won this fixture 3-2.

The last two meetings have seen 10 goals.

There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.

Fulham vs Brentford Prediction:

Fulham will be in good spirits after their debut opening weekend win although they did not play that well but they will be obviously boosted by playing at home for the first time this season. This is a fixture that has been recently entertaining and we think we will witness an open game of football with plenty of chances for both sides. This is a time in the league where Brentford need to go for it like they did against Tottenham because the suspension of their main goalscorer Ivan Toney is going to catch up with them in the next month or so so it is all about getting as many points on the board as possible.

Brentford have scored 5 goals past Fulham in their last two meetings and two of those have come from Toney, so he really is a miss. But this feels like a Bees side who will be distributing their goals around this season. The one worry is how will Frank’s side play away from home? For now this is a close and tricky game to predict but it makes sense to back the home side so early into the season. One can say that Fulham got some luck against Everton but you can also say that it is a good sign to not play great and yet get the three points it really depends on how you look at the situation.
