Fulham vs Aston Villa: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Monday 28th September 2020
Kick off at 5:45pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Another two games for Monday in what could be a regular occurrence in the Premier League will see Fulham take on Aston Villa in the first game.

Fulham have got off to a poor start losing 3-0 at home to Arsenal and then they were involved in a classic but went down 4-3 to Leeds, a club they know very well from their days in the Championship.

In truth this game against Villa feels like a must win as the Cottagers come into it in 19th place. They have conceded 7 goals already, and the omens do not look good. The one plus factor is that they are at Craven Cottage, but can they make it count?

Aston Villa have played just once this season which ended up an important victory over Sheffield United winning at Villa Park 1-0. Villa are in 10th but there isn’t too much else to say about Dean Smith’s side given they have played just once. They do have the opportunity to possibly put some distance between a future rival for relegation and move six points clear though.

Villa did play again in the Carabao Cup where they got through to the next round after beating Bristol City 3-0.

Team News:

Fulham: The Cottagers have the luck to have no major injury problems ahead of this match.

Aston Villa: Bjorn Engels looks set to miss another encounter with his thigh strain. Tom Heaton is nursing his knee injury he picked up last season but there is some good news and the player is being pencilled to be back in October after the international break. Bertrand Traore is being tipped to be fine for this game after he suffered a knock in the Carabao Cup.

Fulham vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

In the league the clubs have not met since 2014 and at Fulham that goes back to 2013, the result was a 2-0 win for the Cottagers.

Aston Villa have not beaten Fulham away in the league since 2010.

There is an 80% chance in league games to see under 2.5 goals.

The last time the clubs met in any competition was at the beginning of the year in the FA Cup. Played at Craven Cottage, Fulham came out 2-1 victors.

Fulham vs Aston Villa Prediction:

We expect a cautious game of football on Monday. The teams are similar in quality though you’d have to respect that Villa come into this fixture with a years worth of recent Premier League experience, could that be telling?

At home Fulham will need to pick up the points if they are to have any chance of surviving this season. One of the key problems with these early games is we don’t know if Fulham will have a nightmare of a season and go down easily or if they have some fight in them. It will take 2-3 games more to see that pattern.

The bookies don't appear to be expecting a high scoring game but we see at least a couple of goals being scored in this encounter, and the goals markets will be our focus for this game.

Fulham vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
