Fulham vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 20th October 2022
Kick off at 7:30pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Fulham are full of 12’s at the moment, in 12th place with 12 points, it’s not been a terrible start for the club but they have gone their last 3 games without a win. Last weekend they drew 2-2 with Bournemouth and this was a positive result given that they had to come back twice. There have been recent defeats against Newcastle and West Ham which have brought the club down to earth but they have to be happy with their start nonetheless.

At home the Cottagers have won 8 points from 15 and lost just once so far though we would have to go back to August for the last time their home fans witnessed a victory. A win here could see the club climb 3-4 places. Aston Villa are in 16th place but would join their hosts on the same points with a win. Villa had recovered well in the past month after a slow start but they were beaten 2-0 against Chelsea at the weekend. It is now up to manager Steven Gerrard to regroup his team and for them to understand that Chelsea on their day are simply on a different level and one of the stronger sides in the league.

Despite a turnaround in form, Villa like their hosts have gone the last 3 games with no wins, with their latest win coming back in mid September when they overcame Southampton 1-0.

Team News:

Fulham vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Both sides are very equal coming into this game and it already feels like one of those encounters that is a six pointer. For Aston Villa there is a real threat that their season could be about trying to survive in the league and having a real relegation battle on their hands, just on the evidence of what we have seen in the first two months of the campaign. But Villa have another side to them, the fighting and deserved 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City showed character, the problem is coming up against an opponent like Fulham poses different problems.

A huge one so far has been Villa’s away form and they have yet to win a game on the road, it’s 2 points earned from a possible 15. It’s also just 3 goals scored on the road but perhaps that record is going to change given that they have stopped losing and started drawing at least. This game follows draws against Leeds and Nottingham Forest and in those games they only conceded once. However Fulham have a weapon in Alexandar Mitrovic and he should get plenty of chances in this game. So we expect a very close encounter, not one of the third kind mind, but this game could be bubbling over with entertainment and we expect both teams to go for the jugular.
