Everton vs Wolves: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 26th August 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

The worry continues at Everton and for good reason. Coming into this season it was thought that Sean Dyche’s side would struggle and after two games they have failed to score and conceded 5. Granted it is early into the season but history tells us if you start this poorly in a top league like the Premier League you end up suffering for most of the season.

Everton’s first game had hope in it and the Toffees played some good football and created chances and yet they lost 1-0 to Fulham. That was the easy result in the end for them to take as they followed this up by getting battered 4-0 at Aston Villa. Villa had just conceded five goals against Newcastle but it still wasn’t a good time to be facing them. A natural goalscorer is the big worry for Everton but they do return home this weekend against a club who have also started the campaign poorly, one would feel even 3 games in that this is a must win for the Toffees.

Wolves were unlucky to lose against Manchester United in their first game of the season but what was the excuse in their first home game of the season as they were smashed 4-1 by Brighton? Brighton are a fine team but at home you don’t want to be conceding goals like that even against the best sides in the league. Wolves did create chances but early into the 2nd half they collapsed and it was quickly game over.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to miss out with a facial injury and no return date has been announced. Jack Harrison won’t make his debut for at least 3 weeks due to fitness issues. Alex Iwobi is out for three weeks with a hamstring injury. Dwight McNeil is out with an ankle injury. Dele Alli is sidelined with a hip injury and Seamus Coleman who has been on a lengthy lay off with his knee is expected back in two months.

Wolves: There are no injury concerns for the club but Matheus Nunes is suspended for this game after being sent off last weekend.

Everton vs Wolves Head to Head:

Last season Wolves won this game 2-1.

Everton have not managed to beat Wolves for the past 4 games.

3 from the last four meetings has seen both teams to score.

There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Everton vs Wolves Prediction:

Once upon a time this would have been seen as 3 points at home to Everton but anyone choosing this game has to have some doubts. Everton are becoming harder to trust and there just seems to be a lack of goals to get the club out of trouble. The worry is the injury list is growing and that includes key players. Alex Iwobi being the latest means there will be no pace in midfield. One would expect Dyche to go with new signing Danjuma up front given that Neal Maupay’s return on goals has been so poor.

Everton remain a complex side in that they have some quality here and being at home and getting the fans behind them they could produce a result over Wolves. However Wolves have had the better over Everton since the pandemic and they are fantastic value here to get the win, low stakes and a possible away victory could be the way to go here. Everton can improve as the season goes on but we have to base our predictions on what we are seeing presently and for now it looks bleak for Dyche’s side.
