Everton vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 1st January 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

The first game of 2021 in the Premier League will take place between Everton and West Ham and the home side come into this fixture in 4th place and have won their last four games.

Everton’s last match against Manchester City, which should have been played in midweek had to be postponed because of an outbreak of Covid-19 in the City team. Indeed the virus has affected other games and it will be a task to see if any matches at the weekend will also have to be postponed.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are back in form though and their last win was against Sheffield United. With the Manchester City match unable to be played it also means that the players have had extra rest than their opponents. Victory for Everton would put them into 2nd place although that may not last long it will confirm that the club are right up there and back in the mix as they put pressure on league leaders Liverpool.

Home form is good with the club winning their last two and their last home game ended in a 2-1 win over Arsenal. Indeed West Ham could become the 3rd London club in a row that Everton beat at home and they do say things come in three’s.

West Ham are in 10th place and drawing too many games which means that they have gone their last 4 without a win. We would have to go back 3 weeks for their last victory, which came away to Leeds.

The Hammers visit also means the return of David Moyes to Goodison Park which is always a special moment for him and he is sure to be welcomed. West Ham have won 3 and lost 3 away with 2 draws. They have gone their last two away games without a win and their last result on the road was a 0-0 draw against Southampton.

Team News:

Everton: An update on Allan’s hamstring injury suggests that the midfielder will be back in 3-4 weeks. James Rodriguez will miss out again with his calf but could return for the FA Cup 3rd round match against Rotherham

West Ham: The Hammers have no new injuries coming into this game.

Everton vs West Ham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 2-0 to Everton.

The teams played at Everton only in September in the Carabao Cup and Everton won 4-1.

In the last 13 meetings to take place when Everton have been the home side West Ham have just 2 victories.

Everton vs West Ham Prediction:

The extra rest that Everton have had doesn’t always mean it will be beneficial but there does seem to be an advantage for the side who also have not had to leave base camp. Everton have the stronger squad and should have plenty of chances though but at the same time West Ham are no roll overs, and we expect an end to end game.

Michail Antonio has fully recovered for the Hammers and he will be a threat and the club will want to avenge their 4-1 battering in the Carabao Cup. This match though represents a chance for Everton to take advantage over Liverpool who have been dropping too many points lately.

Everton like most teams of course have two versions that can turn up to this game and they really need to show no mercy here and start on a positive footing and not let West Ham into the game, if so this could be a straight forward victory. Everton are a good price to win and we will side with the home team.
