England Premier League
Sunday 23rd December 2018
Kick off at 4pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
After an almost full Saturday list of football the last game before Christmas in the Premier League will take place on Sunday when Everton face high flying Tottenham at Goodison Park.
Everton have done well and have been playing really positive football this season under Marco Silva. However their recent form has dropped and they would love a pick me up here just as the burst of Christmas games start. The Toffees have not won a match since victory over Cardiff almost 1 month ago. However the club have been strong at home and have lost only one match this season, although they have drawn their last two games here.
Tottenham have achieved nothing in the trophy room but a lot on the pitch and there comes a time where you have to appreciate what they have gained this season. No new players signed in the summer, stadium delays and now talk and mostly rumours that manager Mauricio Pochettino could leave at the end of the season for Manchester United. And yet despite all of this the team keep rolling on and getting the results.
That continued in recent weeks as a draw at Barcelona in the Champions League meant qualification for the knock out rounds. Then they knocked Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup away from home and are 3rd in the league and sitting pretty. The worry for Everton is that Tottenham have the 2nd best away record in the league where they have won 24 points from a possible 30.
Team News:
Everton: Idrissa Gueye has a slight knock and could miss this match but will be assessed. He is currently the only major player missing for the Toffees
Tottenham: Serge Aurier could be named in the squad after his muscle injury. Jan Vertoghen, Eric Dier and Moussa Dembele are all expected to miss the rest of this year
Everton vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham won this fixture 3-0.
Tottenham have scored 10 goals against Everton in their last 3 meetings.
Everton have not beaten Tottenham since 2012.
Everton vs Tottenham Prediction:
This game has the potential to be the best of the weekend in the Premier League. Everton are equipped with the players to score goals and at home they will be a tough opponent for Spurs.
Tottenham though have a desire and a belief and it almost feels as if their league loss to Arsenal just reminded them what their long impact job is in the league. Everton are not playing bad football but they are not getting the results at the moment, Tottenham are playing well and are getting the results so we will opt for the away win.
