Match Preview:
Rafa Benitez is under pressure now as Everton come into this game having lost their last 3 games. However Tottenham doesn’t start with the letter ‘W’ which could be a good omen given that the three losses have come against West Ham, Watford and Wolves.
Everton have had some injuries granted and they desperately need Dominic Calvert-Lewin back but the club have looked quite toothless lately and have lost their last 3 games. Every club can lose a succession of games although for Everton it has been worrying because the passage of play and tactics at times have looked simply off. The run started with defeat at home to West Ham a club that used to call Goodison ‘a graveyard’ given how hard it was to win their. This was followed up by an horrific result losing 5-2 again at home but this time to Watford, it’s odd to think that Everton were leading the game 2-1 with just over ten minutes to play.
Then last Monday Everton lost away to an inform Wolves side 2-1, but the game felt effectively over by half time since Wolves had dominated play and taken a 2-0 lead. Everton and Benitez will turn this around but that doesn’t mean these aren’t worrying times and in fact the club have not recorded a win since the end of September and even that was against bottom club Norwich.
These results have left Everton in 11th place and they are 12 points from 1st place but only 4 points from a possible top 4, so despite poor form Everton shouldn’t be giving up the chase just yet.
It’s all change for Tottenham after Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking and in has stepped Italian Antonio Conte. This will be Conte’s first league game in charge of Tottenham although his first game was actually in midweek in the Conference League. Tottenham who were at home beat Vitesse 3-2, although they were 3-0 up at one point. Still a win is a win and there is no doubt that the Londoners will come into this game with a lot of confidence and a boost at having Conte as manager.
Tottenham are one place ahead of their hosts and have one more point, they come into this match having lost their last two. The clubs last away game finished in a 1-0 defeat against West Ham and on the road it’s three defeats from their last four games.
Team News:
Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still out with his thigh injury and isn’t expected back until the end of the month. Andre Gomes looks set to miss out due to a lack of match fitness. Lucas Digne is expected to be fine for this game after picking up a muscle injury.
Tottenham: Bryan Gil seems to have recovered from his recent hamstring injury but remains only 50/50 to make the squad.

Everton vs Tottenham Prediction:
Both sets of managers have pressure on them coming into this duel although clearly Benitez has more. At least with Conte first impressions aside he will have some time to fit into the club and use some excuses. Benitez of course has only been with Everton since the beginning of the season, but a week in football is a long time, so 3 months feels like a year in this sport. On the whole of course Benitez has done a good job, but there seems to be problems creeping in now and he needs to turn it around. You get the sense that job would have been easier had Santo still been in charge.
The new manager syndrome really does exist and every Tottenham player will be giving that extra bit to impress Conte. The Conference League is one thing and very new the Premier League is quite something else and this is the game where Conte wants his team to put on a performance and get the win.
The good news is that Everton have a recent good record over Tottenham, but Tottenham will surely score given the woes of the Everton defence. We expect to see a lively game because Tottenham will force their hand and won’t sit back, so it should be free flowing, and the edge has to be with the away side.
