Everton vs Sheffield Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 11th May 2024
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Relaxed and Everton have not gone hand in hand in a few years but at least on the pitch and for the fans Everton come into this game relaxed. It has been another scary ride for the club this season but after winning 3 of their last four games and finally finding form Everton are safe and they will be expected to beat the bottom side Sheffield United in the clubs last game of the season at home. Everton have shown good form and beating Liverpool would have been a season highlight but there have also been good wins over Nottingham Forest and Brentford. In midweek the Toffees drew 1-1 away with Luton to keep their unbeaten streak to four games. Everton are in 15th place and could possibly chase down Crystal Palace for a 14th placed finish.

Sheffield United have lost 26 games this season and they will go down as one of the poorest sides to have played in the Premier League. They have just 16 points and it would feel like some sort of achievement to reach the 20 point marker but that seems close to impossible. Perhaps the most damning account of the Blades season so far has been that they have earned just 3 points from their last 10 games right at the moment when they needed to start winning points. As it stands the club's season has been so poor that they are 8 points adrift of 19th placed Burnley. Not only do the Blades have the worst home record they also have the worst away one with just 6 points won from a possible 54 and they have conceded the most goals on the road with 46 so far.

Team News:

Everton: There are no new injuries to report but Vitaliy Mykolenko is out for the season with an ankle injury, Dele Alli and Nathan Patterson are also out with respective groin and hamstring injuries.

Sheffield United: Anel Ahmedhodzic is suspended, Mason Holgate cannot face his parent club. George Baldock, Chris Basham, John Egan, Tom Davies, Max Lowe, Oliver McBurnie and Rhys Norrington-Davies are all out for the season.

Everton vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played this fixture in 2021 Sheffield United won 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished 2-2.

It’s been just over three years since Everton beat Sheffield United.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Everton vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

While there is a gap in quality between the teams Everton has struggled to beat the Blades in recent years and in fact have lost their last two home games to them. We would find it a big surprise for this to happen this weekend though given Everton’s good spirits and good play. Sheffield United have too many injuries and this has added up for them and hampered them too. In their final home game of the season we expect the Toffees not to just win but score a few goals too and win this one comfortably. The key will be in the first half and if Everton can score early that should break Sheffield United’s hearts, for us this is a solid home win.
