England Premier League
Sunday 21st April 2024
Kick off at 1:30pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
On Sunday 16th will take on 17th in what is another crucial game in the battle to stay up. Both clubs have had problems off the pitch also, but Everton’s have been far worse. The dreaded word of administration has been mooted around because prospective new owners 777 Partners have asked for more time to raise funds, at the last minute this was granted by the FA. Both clubs have of course had penalty points for breaking FFP rules although it is unclear why Everton lost 8 points for losing £19m and Forest lost just 4 for losing almost double that. Obviously a win for either side would be huge so there will be a lot of tensions in the air at Goodison Park.
Form for Everton has been very poor with just 1 win in four months which came at home against 19th placed Burnley in a narrow 1-0 win. Form in this time would put Everton in 19th place with 9 points won from their last 45 on offer. Last weekend Everton imploded and were thrashed 6-0 away to Chelsea, this was seen as a new low given how Chelsea have struggled at times this season even if they have a much better squad. There could be a glimmer of light at home given that there has been just one defeat in the clubs last five games here but 3 of those results have ended in draws and with just 4 wins at home so far victories have been hard to come by.
Nottingham Forest are appealing the four points they have lost and so their situation could change for the better later this month but like their hosts this is a must win game. Forest are just one point behind Everton and have only lost once in their last five which came against Tottenham. Last weekend they drew 2-2 against Wolves and have also recorded a recent win over Fulham. Away from home Forest would rank in 18th place and have won just two games so far losing 10. In their last five away games they have only managed to win two points.
Team News:
Everton: The club have some touch and go injury concerns over Seamus Coleman, Idrissa Gueye, Jarrad Branthwaite, Nathan Patterson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin and they will be assessed ahead of the game. Lewis Dobbin is out with an ankle injury with no fixed return date. Dele Alli will probably miss the rest of the season now with an ongoing groin injury.
Nottingham Forest: Willy Boly and Taiwo Awoniyi are both missing with no fixed return dates with respective muscle injuries.
Everton vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:
Last season the clubs drew 1-1 in this fixture.
The teams have only played each other 3 times this century and Everton remain unbeaten with two draws and a win which they achieved earlier in the season.
Everton vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
The worry for Everton is the lack of goals they are scoring with 32 so far only bottom club Sheffield United have scored less. 16 of those have come at home and that is the worst attack in the league at home. However the Toffees have at least scored in each of their last four home games. One would expect to see a reaction after the terrible loss at Chelsea, but this is a side lacking confidence. For this game see the recent game to Burnley at home and that is how the club will have to try and adapt themselves too.
Nottingham Forest can score goals but with only 17 on the road they have the 3rd worst attacking record, so what will give? We think Everton can keep their unbeaten record over Forest this century but this looks like being a close game with few goals. When asked in the past Everton have just been able to edge must win six pointers at home against sides right next to them in position but we are not so convinced this time, but check the final team news.
