Everton vs Nottm Forest: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th August 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

There are worries at Everton that is clear but it isn’t time to hit the panic button just yet, but lose this game and fans may well be. Make no mistake Everton at home will be expected to beat newly promoted Nottingham Forest and so there will be some pressure on Everton to get the 3 points on Saturday afternoon.

This season it has been clear that Everton have been restricted budget wise however they have still spent over £50m, but a lot of players have been acquired either on a free transfer or loans. It is also clear that manager Frank Lampard has focused on defence and defensive midfield, to shore that up and on paper Everton do look like a solid unit. The 1-0 loss against Chelsea at Goodison Park was obviously not welcome but at the same time the Blues are a quality side and only got their win through a penalty. Last weekend Everton were defeated by Aston Villa 2-1. This felt like more of a disappointment but again being away from home is never easy in the Premier League. Everton played some good football in the game but didn’t really get going until they were 2-0 down. So whilst these are problematic times for the Toffees, fans will look at the appearance of new signing Amadou Onana who looked brilliant when he came on against Villa and helped with the consolation goal.

There is talk that a couple of more additions will come to Everton but at the same time Antony Gordon may leave the club for Chelsea in a possible £50m deal. But for now Everton have Gordon and need to be looking to get maximum points in this game.

It was a very emotional moment at the City Ground last weekend as Nottingham Forest recorded their first victory in this century in the top flight as they got past West Ham with a narrow 1-0 victory. Forest played well and of course had to ride their luck at times but only the 3 points matters and they come into this game with some confidence. Of course it’s very early in the season but the club will be happy to glance at the league table and see that they are in 10th place.

Everton vs Nottm Forest Prediction:

These famous clubs haven’t played each other for 23 years so the h2h is not important here, with so much changing in that period of time. We can only go on what we have witnessed since the beginning of the month. Everton are under pressure but even last season which was by all accounts a nightmare one for the club Everton were able to pull out some impressive wins at home, they will need the fans to be 100% behind them and vocal though. Everton’s injury list is piling up but they have some decent replacements, this doesn’t extend to the front line though but there have been calls to start Salomon Rondon up front and the tough forward may be the right choice against this Forest side.

Forest will be content so far and it is all about chalking up the points early in the season for them. Their obvious worry is how they will perform away from home and despite problems at Everton we expect a trip to Goodison Park to be very tricky for this team. They have made a lot of additions who will have to gel quick. We expect a good fast paced game but will be backing the home side at decent odds.
