England Premier League
Saturday 30th January 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
Everton get to stay at home for the second successive game as they face Newcastle at the weekend and the Toffees will be the favourites to collect all three points.
In midweek Everton drew 1-1 at home against Leicester and on reflection that was a good result considering how the teams played and it means that the club haven’t lost to the Foxes this season as they beat them in the reverse fixture 2-0.
Everton have slipped to 7th place with 33 points though it is important to point out that the club have 2 games in hand over 4 clubs above them, win those and in theory Everton would be joint 3rd so there is plenty to believe in and play for.
Home form is a slight worry for the club though who have picked up 14 points and yet 19 points on the road, Everton have won just 45% of their games at home and with the draw to Leicester and a loss against West Ham, Everton have not won at home since beating Arsenal on December 19th. A home win is certainly overdue for the club.
Newcastle are slipping in the wrong direction and they have lost their last 5 games. The Magpies have 19 points and will have one eye on 18th now, there is only a six point gap until the panic sets in. Based on the last 10 Premier League games Newcastle would be 19th and from those 30 points available they have won just 5.
The Magpies have also lost their last 5 away games with their latest coming against Aston Villa in a 2-0 defeat. In midweek Newcastle recorded their 11th loss of the season, losing 2-1 at home to Leeds.
Team News:
Everton: Allan could be assessed as he was pencilled in to return for this game but remains a doubt. Niels Nkounkou has a knock which has ruled him out of the last 2 games and he remains a doubt for this match also. Fabian Delph is still out with his hamstring.
Newcastle: Ciaran Clark has a calf injury and will be assessed as will Paul Dummett who has a knock. Fernandez looks long term with his hamstring injury. DeAndre Yedlin is unavailable due to a visa problem.
Everton vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended in a 2-2 draw.
Earlier in the season in the reverse match Newcastle beat Everton 2-1.
Newcastle have not won at Goodison Park since 2010.
Everton vs Newcastle Prediction:
Everton will be favourites to win and this is a real opportunity for the club to get back into the mix with victory here, bt the club will have to be more bloodthirsty if you like than they were against Leicester. At their best Everton look like a side who can threaten for a top 4 place but at their worst they are able to let teams off the hook, Everton need to have more of a killer instinct about them. Do this and they should have no problems in winning this game.
Newcastle come here with a lack of confidence but Steve Bruce will remind his players that they have beaten Everton once already this season and will probably set up to defend deep and frustrate their hosts. Everton have conceded in 4 of their last 5 home games and Newcastle may feel confident of scoring a goal. Everton will need 2 or 3 goals to settle this game.
