Everton vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 21st January 2020
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Everton earned another point in a 1-1 draw away to West Ham as their mini-reunion with David Moyes, now manager of the Hammers was complete. The game itself was not pretty but it is becoming a decent result now to earn a point away in the Premier League.

Is new manager Carlo Ancelotti doing a good job? It does seem that he has the side believing in themselves again and a few wins have been stitched together, but the club feel more confident and happy to be playing at home and this is why this match will be welcomed.

It was only a month ago that these two sides met and Everton won, becoming only the second club at the time to beat Newcastle. Everton have climbed to 11th and you can almost feel the fans urging their club on, one more win should mean entering the top half of the table and putting to bed the notion that the club were under threat from relegation this season. The clubs form is decent with one loss in their last five, and at home they have won 3 from their last 4 games and are undefeated in their last 4.

Newcastle got a big win at the weekend, described by sports pundit Alan Smith as a smash and grab win since they scored at the death to beat Chelsea 1-0. The Magpies have the same points as Everton and come here undefeated in their last two games.

However whilst Steve Bruce is having a decent season with his boyhood club they have been poor away from home, losing 7 games from 11. They earned just 1 point from their last 9 on their travels with their last game away ending in a 1-1 draw against Wolves.

Team News:

Everton: Alex Iwobi is 50/50 to return after his hamstring injury. Richarlison’s knee injury is thought to be minor and Gylfi Sigurdsson has a minor groin injury but both are a doubt for this game.

Newcastle: Andy Carroll will be assessed after carrying a knock. Jetro Willems could have a nasty knee injury and is ruled out of this game after injuring it v Chelsea.

Everton vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-1.

Newcastle haven’t won at Everton since 2010.

The last 3 meetings has seen both sides to score.

Everton vs Newcastle Prediction:

Everton have not put in a brilliant and commanding performance since Carlo Ancelotti took over, but they are looking more difficult to beat and they do record wins at home, and this could be and should be another one. Newcastle have a growing list of injuries and Everton it could be argued do have the stronger depth in squad. The club could well be without Richarlison and Sigurdsson though, who missed out at the 11th hour against West Ham last weekend. Newcastle do pose a threat but since Ancelotti was announced Everton have kept 3 consecutive clean sheets at Goodison Park. Get on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to find the back of the net. Not only did he score at the weekend but last month when the clubs met in the reverse fixture he got both goals in a 2-1 win.

Everton vs Newcastle Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Dominic Calvert-Lewin at 2.04
