England Premier League
Sunday 26th November 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
This will be Everton’s first game since receiving a 10 point deduction for breaking FFP rules by £20m and the club and fans have been outraged by the penalty. The club will appeal but for now they have been dropped down to 19th place and now have 4 points. Before that manager Sean Dyche had steered the club upwards and clear progress had been made but now the Toffees chances of survival may well be on the line for a third straight season.
From being 8 points clear of the bottom three Everton are now five points from safety given Luton’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Everton have this game in hand but in having to face Manchester United it is far from an easy home fixture. Home has not been exactly the best place for Everton either with just one win from six games although they have been able to remain unbeaten in their last two games here with a win over Bournemouth and a draw against Brighton. Form for Everton has really picked up too with just one defeat in their last five games and they have been able to pick up 10 points from the last 15 available.
Manchester United’s form like Everton’s has picked up and they have won 4 of their last five games. Indeed Everton and Manchester United share something in common given that the only teams they have lost to in the last month has been their derby neighbours in Liverpool and Manchester City respectively. United are in 8th place and with some of the top sides dropping points this weekend they could be in the mix with victory here. United would go into sixth place with a win and their away form has really improved with three victories in a row which have come against Burnley, Sheffield United and Fulham.
Team News:
Everton: Amadou Onana has a calf injury and could be assessed for this game but isn’t expected back until next week. Seamus Coleman is being tipped to return after a lengthy lay off but will be assessed for fitness issues. Andre Gomes and Dele Alli remain out due to respective calf and hip injuries.
Manchester United: Christian Eriksen remains out for at least two weeks more due to a knee injury. Rasmus Hojlund has a muscle injury and is only 50/50 to make this game. Casemiro’s knee injury means he won’t be back for at least six weeks, Jonny Evans remains out with a muscle injury. Amad Diallo is sidelined with a knee injury as is Tyrell Malacia. Jadon Sancho remains unavailable.

Everton vs Man Utd Prediction:
Everton could go two ways. The first makes no sense and that is to feel sorry for themselves, the second is to play even better than they have been and be even more determined. The penalty points could actually work in the clubs favour and fire them up more. However a loss here and a few more bad results and the players may start feeling sorry for themselves so it is important to put in a good game. Normally facing Manchester United meant a loss for Everton but this is clearly not the United side of old, however they still have quality in the side and have found form, so this remains a dangerous game.
Everton may be happy with a draw and move on but of course they will feel obliged to win and make points up on Luton. Normally backing the double chance for a home side isn’t the way to go because of the price but Everton are a good price and that covers 66% of our choice. This is a game that could end in a draw but we do expect to see a physical one so get on the card market too in a game which could see the home team over zealous. There is a clear feeling that will overshadow this fixture that Everton have been harshly dealt with this week and that could play out on the pitch.
