England Premier League
Sunday 9th October 2022
Kick off at 7pm
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
The best defence in the Premier League so far is Everton’s and after a nightmarish last season that shows how hard the club have been working behind the scenes. There has been significant improvement in Everton and they are a team who have been working hard for one another and putting in a shift.
Everton come into this game in 11th place with 10 points and are unbeaten in their last 6 games. It’s also two wins in a row for the Toffees after beating West Ham and Southampton. The victory over the Saints was fantastic given how generally poor Everton can be on the road and the fact we were in the second half of that game and the club were losing. This shows there is a mental backbone to the side now and whilst they may be missing star players compared to their opponents Everton are perhaps working better as a unit.
Manchester United were in very good form having won 4 games in a row but that was stopped in its tracks after being destroyed by Manchester City last weekend in a 6-3 loss. United are in 6th place although Everton could go ahead of them with a win here. In general then United have improved but the spotlight is still very much on manager Erik ten Hag with many debating his decisions to drop Ronaldo and Casemiro to the bench in vital games.
Team News:
Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is being tipped to return for this game after a lengthy spell out. Yerry Mina could return but may not be risked due to fitness issues and may have to wait until next week. Mason Holgate looks set to miss out due to fitness issues. Ben Godfrey is another month away with his leg injury. Nathan Patterson has a knee injury and isn’t expected back for another 3 weeks. Andtos Townsend won’t return until the Christmas period as he has a knee injury.
Manchester United: Harry Maguire is missing with a hamstring injury, Raphael Varane will be assessed but is expected to return. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is out with a knock, Donny van de Beek is missing with a muscle injury.
Everton vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Everton won this fixture 1-0.
It’s been 4 games since Manchester United beat Everton.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Everton vs Man Utd Prediction:
There was a time where this fixture may have made Everton afraid to play, the mighty Manchester United and all that and the fixture felt unbalanced on one side. That isn’t the case now and the gap between these two teams has certainly shortened. United remain a dangerous team and if they can shift their focus to what they do best then they will be a problem for Everton. Take out the City battering and they are one of the most form sides in the league. Everton need to stay focused themselves but such is the confidence within the team and the hard work being put in it is difficult to see Everton losing this game without a moment of controversy and let’s face it even last season Everton lost points due to referee’s errors.
So this game could well end in a draw and whilst United have the players to get a few goals we should respect how well the Everton defence has been so far. The value on the double chance covering the draw for the home side is good and we will opt for this choice in a game that could be low scoring.
