Everton vs Man Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 7th November 2020
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

From 1st place to 4th in just a matter of weeks, that's how quickly dreams can fade in the Premier League and after a blazing start from Everton they have lost two games on the bounce.

Those defeats both came away against Southampton and then Newcastle and the objective at the weekend will be to reignite the fire within the players and get back on track. On paper facing Manchester United is never an easy game but United are down in 15th place and clearly do not possess the same quality as they once did, but this is a game that Everton could lose and the feeling around the club will be having to pick something up from this game.

A victory would put Everton right back in the mix and despite having to endure two consecutive defeats Carlo Ancelotti’s team are only 3 points shy of league leaders Liverpool.

Seeing Manchester United so far down the table doesn’t even bring back memories of anything post Alex Ferguson, it actually feels like its the 1970s again. That’s how stable the Red Devils have been throughout the years and the press columns have been full of the possibility that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job is on the line. Yet everytime that has happened Solskjaer has usually been able to dig deep, get a result and then go on a winning spree.

However this may be different. Even in the Champions League in midweek United lost to Istanbul 2-1 and although away from home, it has still been seen as a surprise result. This follows on from their league defeat at home against Arsenal by 1-0, and that was the first time United had lost to the Gunners at Old Trafford in the league since 2006.

A win for United would only in theory move them up one place and away from home so far this season they are unbeaten but it is interesting to note that from the six games they have played so far only two have been on the road. Those victories came against Newcastle and Brighton and the club scored 7 goals in those games.

Team News:

Everton: Seamus Coleman is being pencilled in to return for this game after his hamstring injury, though he is only 50/50 to do so. Andre Gomes has a knock but it isn’t thought to be serious. Ben Godfrey will be assessed with what is thought to be a minor hamstring problem. Richarlison is still suspended after his red card v Liverpool. James Rodriguez is being tipped to return after missing the Newcastle defeat through injury, and Digne returns from suspension also.

Manchester United: Jesse Lingard could return after missing the last few weeks for an unspecified reason. The club have no new injury concerns.

Everton vs Man Utd Head to Head:

The last two league meetings between the sides has ended with the correct score of 1-1.

Manchester United have only won at Goodison Park once from the last 4 league attempts.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Everton vs Man Utd Prediction:

This game could tell us a lot about Carlo Ancelotti’s character. We know the Italian is a match winner and in big games too. This match represents just that because if Everton were to lose it would be 3 defeats in a row and the confidence could be gone. Also the club will be playing a side that simply have not been up to par so far this season and have had to travel to Turkey for an extra midweek game.

Manchester United have dangerous players of course but probably would have preferred a night game instead of an early lunch time start and this could have an effect on the game. We expect to see a few goals but if we look at United’s latest matches against Chelsea and Arsenal they seemed to be a little afraid to win and settle for a point and that could be the game plan here, to try and play out the game at their pace and maybe counter attack. Everton cannot fall into that trap. They have had some positive results against United recently and they will have to be 100% at the weekend to get the win.
