Match Preview:
Is Everton’s season about to get better? It’s been a terrible start from the Toffees granted but they have played some good football and that seems to be finally paying off. Last weekend Everton recorded their first win of the season beating Brentford away from home 3-1. That was seen as a huge win for the club given how poor overall they have been on the road and previous to that they had only scored 2 goals this season. The good times were followed up in midweek by knocking out Aston Villa in the EFL Cup again away from home and winning that one 2-1. Everton had lost 4-0 in the same fixture a few weeks ago, granted Villa had made changes but only one side looked hungry for the win.
Everton fans are still looking to see their club's first win at home and facing Luton many will expect to witness that. This could be the beginning of a recovery process for the Toffees but at the same time nothing can be taken for granted and the reality of the situation is that Sean Dyche’s team lie in 15th place and have four points from 18.
Luton have played five games and could go above Everton with victory here. The Hatters have not won yet this season and have 1 point so far and are in 18th place. It would be an understatement to say that Luton’s season so far has been poor although at least they did stop the rot last weekend by drawing their latest game 1-1 at home to Wolves. There was more misery for Luton in midweek as they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by League One side Exeter losing that game 1-0. One could argue that less cup games when the team are trying to survive could be a good thing for this season, but it also dampens momentum going forward and the clubs confidence coming into this game would have to be questioned.
Team News:
Everton: The club only have two injuries which have been long term and no new injuries for the first team. Seamus Coleman won’t return for at least another three weeks due to his long term knee injury. Dele Alli is still missing with a hip injury with no fixed return date.
Luton: Former Everton player Ross Barkley is set to return for the side for this weekend following his hamstring injury. Albert Sambi Lokonga has a hamstring injury and could be out for two months. Daniel Potts is out until November with an ankle injury. Gabriel Osho is missing with his knee and not due back for at least 3 weeks. Jordan Clark has an ankle injury and is set to miss out the next two months.
Everton vs Luton Head to Head:
The clubs have not played here since 2006 when they met in the League Cup, Everton won that game 4-0.
The last league game here finished 1-1 although that was in 1992.
Everton have remained undefeated against Luton for the past 9 meetings.
Everton vs Luton Prediction:
We have to forget the h2h for the fixture as the clubs simply have not played each other for almost 20 years. Everton will come into this game with a lot of confidence and a spring in their step and we expect them to win this game against a side really struggling in confidence. Indeed despite Everton’s slow start it would feel like a surprise if Luton were to get anything here and while Everton are odds to win they are a decent price.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is smiling again and he could be worth backing to score but we expect to see a professional and disciplined performance from Everton, if they can play their game we feel that Luton do not have a chance.
Everton vs Luton Betting Tips:
Everton to beat Luton at 1.60
Half Time Correct Score: Everton to win 1-0 or 2-0 at 3.25 and 8.00
