England Premier League
Sunday 3rd March 2019
Kick off at 4:15pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
The Merseyside derby will come at quite a time for Liverpool who are 2 points behind Man City but with a game in hand and the club will understand that their fierce rival will love to make things difficult for them.
Everton got a very good away win against Cardiff in midweek winning 3-0 and that was the perfect tonic and pick me up the club were looking for. The Cardiff win ended a sequence of 3 straight losses for the club and took some of the pressure off Marco Silva.
The Toffeemen have the 10th best home record in the league where from 42 points they have won 21. The clubs recent home form is worrying though, where they have lost 4 of their last 5 and won under 50% of matches at Goodison Park. Despite this the club are still on course to break their points achieved from last season and are just 4 points from 7th place and a possible Europa League finish.
Liverpool have only lost 1 game this season which is remarkable and yet Manchester City are still on their trail. Form is good for The Reds but at the same time they have dropped points with 3 draws in their last 5 games.
Jurgen Klopp’s team got a fantastic boost ahead of the game by destroying Watford 5-0, and away from home the club have the 2nd best record winning 9 of their 14 games with just one defeat. They have also conceded the least amount of goals on the road with 8.
Team News:
Everton: The only doubt for the club is Leighton Baines who has a back injury and could be assessed ahead of the game
Liverpool: Firmino has an ankle injury and is rated only 50/50 to make this match. Joseph Gomez is out until at least next week with a leg injury. Dejan Lovren is out with a muscle injury
Head to Head:
Earlier this season Liverpool beat Everton 1-0.
Last season this fixture ended 0-0.
Home or away Everton have not beaten Liverpool since 2010.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Prediction:
On paper, on form and recent history it is a no brainer that Everton will not win this game. There still seems to be a psychological problem within the side who even when on form seem to not play as a unit when they face Liverpool. Liverpool though have shown signs of weakness against tricker teams, think of the Leicester game or away to West Ham, Liverpool have the better players but could only draw on both occasions. As the title draws to a close do they really have the mental strength to see it through?
This is the way we think this game could play out. Everton are as much as 6.00 to win at home which is great value, and they will have revenge on their minds after Liverpool's last minute winner at Anfield earlier in the season. Therefore we will back Everton on a +1 asian handicap as Liverpool could be a little nervous with so much on the line. We also feel there could be a few talking points in this game so expect a red card or a penalty.
Recommended Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (+1.0 Everton) at 1.86
A penalty in the match (Yes) at 3.75
A red card in the match (Yes) at 3.75
