Everton vs Leeds: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 28th November 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

It’s difficult to measure just how important Everton’s win was over Fulham last weekend. Carlo Ancelotti’s team won the game 3-2 to end a 3 match losing streak however Fulham were coming back in that game and had they made it 3-3 it could well have effected Everton going forward. By their own admission Fulham have started the season in poor form and Everton were expected to get the three points.

In truth that match was over in the first half and Everton had to thank Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again who scored a brace and now leads the goalscorers charts with 10 goals so far. They will hope that he has his goalscoring boots on when the club returns back to Goodison Park at the weekend.

The victory means Everton are in sixth place and just four points from the top and it has put them in the mix once again. The club need to establish a good home record and so far this has been a mixed bag with a 50% win rate and they haven’t won at home since beating Brighton 4-2 back at the beginning of October.

Leeds have played some memorable games already in the Premier League and yet come into this encounter in 14th place and the club have not won a game in their last 3 matches. Last weekend despite dominating the game they could only draw 0-0 with Arsenal and it really felt like two points dropped.

However Marcelo Bielsa will be pleased with how positive his team has been and the fact that they kept a clean sheet after shipping so many goals in recent games will be encouraging. But playing away, especially for Leeds is another ball game and the club are conceding on average 2 goals per game. They do have a win rate of 50% on the road but their last away game ended in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace. A win would see Leeds climb into 11th place at least until the other clubs around them have to play.

Team News:

Everton: There has been no update on Seamus Coleman’s hamstring and he looks set to miss this match. Lucas Digne has picked up an ankle injury and is ruled out, this could be long term. An update on the unfortunate Jean-Philippe Gbamin is that he is back in training after long term injury and is being pencilled in to return in two weeks time.

Leeds: Diego Llorente missed the Arsenal match with a muscle injury and remains a doubt for this encounter. Pablo Hernandez has the same problem and will be assessed.

Everton vs Leeds Head to Head:

The teams haven’t met each other since 2003 at Goodison Park in a match that Everton won 4-0.

The last time the teams played was in 2012 when Leeds were at home in the League Cup and won that encounter 2-1.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Everton vs Leeds Prediction:

First off we can’t use the history between the two clubs when deciding if there is a pattern. True Leeds have not won at Everton’s ground in almost 30 years but because of their relegation woes the teams simply have not met each other in competitive games in what feels like a generation.

Everton need to use their vast experience over Leeds but Leeds will be quick and zippy and create chances , which is why we can see both teams scoring. We also think the value is with Leeds, they have been playing well even if not getting the results, and Everton are now without Digne and looked less than impressive against Fulham. An attacking Leeds side could surprise Everton and come away with something here.
