England Premier League
Saturday 15th April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
For the second successive season Everton are facing a relegation battle and with some very difficult fixtures ahead of them they will have to be winning games like this one at the weekend where they will be at home to Fulham. The pressure is on the Toffees to perform and get a win here and the feeling if they fail will be one of dread on the blue half of Merseyside.
Everton are in 17th place on 27 points and only goal difference means they are not in the bottom three. Small gaps are starting to appear though, there is a two point gap to 16th placed Leeds and a 3 point gap to 15th placed Bournemouth. Everton have won just one game from their past five although it is just one defeat in that time too which happened last weekend as they were beaten 2-0 away to Manchester United. Sean Dyche’s side last home game was a 1-1 draw against Tottenham but overall the club has won just 5 times here and lost seven. However recent form has seen 10 points claimed from their last 15 and if they were to win here things could turn quickly in their favour.
Fulham have been one of the most impressive sides in the league considering their budget and the fact they have come up from the Championship. A relegation battle isn’t a worry for Marco Silva’s side and that in itself is a success story. However the Cottagers have really fallen away in the past month and have picked up just 1 point from their last 15, indeed they have lost their last four coming into this game. Recent defeats have come against Brentford, Arsenal, Bournemouth and West Ham and they are in need of a pick me up. It’s been two months since Fulham last won on the road when they beat Brighton and overall they have the 8th best away record with 17 points won from a possible 42.
Team News:
Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness, he could be assessed ahead of the game though. Seamus Coleman is out with a hamstring injury although it isn’t thought to be too serious, Abdoulaye Doucoure is suspended and won’t return until the end of the month. Ruben Vinagre remains a doubt as he is carrying an Achilles injury. Andros Townsend remains sidelined with fitness issues.
Fulham: Aleksandar Mitrovic is suspended and isn’t due back for another four weeks, Neeskens Kebano has a lack of match fitness but could be assessed. Layvin Kurzawa is set to miss out again due to a hamstring injury.
Everton vs Fulham Head to Head:
The last time the clubs met here was in 2021 and Fulham won 2-0 and it was their first ever victory away to Everton.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture this ended 0-0.
Everton has just one victory in the last four.
3 of the last 4 meetings has ended in under 2.5 goals.
Everton vs Fulham Prediction:
Every game is huge for Everton and all of the clubs down there under a real relegation threat but it cannot be understated that this match is a true must win. Firstly because it is at home and Everton’s away form continues to be woeful but also because the Toffees usually get a lot of joy from Fulham at home and there are difficult games ahead.
As for Fulham they still don’t seem to have recovered from their meltdown game against Manchester United where two players were sent off and Marco Silva is currently serving a touch line ban too. As good as Fulham have been this season this seems like the perfect time for Everton to be playing them and we expect to see a solid, professional performance from Dyche’s troops and a home win.
