England Premier League
Saturday 22nd October 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
Everton fans will of course have a great memory of facing Crystal Palace in last season’s fixture at Goodison Park as it was this game that confirmed Everton’s survival. On that memorable day back in May Everton came back from 2-0 down to dramatically win 3-2, but as it stands the Toffees could well do with a win again.
Frank Lampard’s side have lost their last 3 games and are slipping down the table coming into this weekend. Granted they have had tough fixtures, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle and the last two were away from home, so in a sense a win would be expected here from the fans. There is also a worrying home trend at present as Everton would rank in 19th place based on home games alone. It’s just 5 points earned from a possible 15 with their only win at Goodison coming against West Ham. Overall Everton are in 15th place and just one point shy of the bottom three but victory could see Lampard’s team climb up a couple of places.
Crystal Palace are three points clear of their hosts so a six pointer could be on the cards and they are in 11th place. It hasn’t been a superb start for the Eagles but recent form has picked up and it’s just one defeat in their past five and they have gone their last 3 games without a loss. In midweek they beat Wolves 2-1 after coming back from a goal down. On the road Patrick Vieira’s side have only lost one but have yet to win a game and their last result ended in a 0-0 draw against Leicester.
Team News:
Everton: There are no new injuries for the club but Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey, Nathan Patterson and Andros Townsend all remain sidelined.
Crystal Palace: Jack Butland and Nathan Ferguson have recovered from long term injuries but have a lack of match fitness, but could be assessed. Will Hughes is just 50/50 to return because of illness, Nathaniel Clyne won’t return until the end of the month with his ankle injury. James McArthur is out with a hip injury and Chris Richards is sidelined with his hamstring but could be back in the next 10 days.

Everton vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
This game feels like a clean slate for Everton after having to face three top seven sides. But these are games against the likes of Palace that the club need to be winning to take those steps forward. Overall Everton have a good record against the Eagles but recent results haven’t been fantastic although they have struggled more on the road against them. Even last season Everton found themselves 2-0 down at half time at home and one has to wonder if that game had been an early season or mid season one if Everton would have mustered the fight to have come back, so playing Palace must be met with caution.
Of the two sides it is Palace that come here with a spring in their step and they haven’t tasted defeat since the beginning of the month. They remain dangerous up front and Wilfried Zaha will be a handful. Everton’s brilliant start in defence has been tested in recent weeks but Lampard will want his team to be tight at the back once again and will want to see his team put in a resilient and typical Everton performance. Anthony Gordon is back after his suspension and with the crowd behind them much will be expected of their club to win a huge 3 points.
