Everton vs Chelsea: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

What 10 point deduction? That will be the thoughts of Everton after they were handed the penalty points fine which witnessed the club drop to 19th place but now they are out of the relegation zone already despite the penalty. Everton are in 17th place and dumped Luton back into the bottom three after their brilliant 3-0 win in midweek against Newcastle. It was a victory that justified why Sean Dyche is the manager of the club and he is certainly steering the club in the right direction. On form Everton would be in 6th place having won 3 of their last four games. Everton have beaten Nottingham Forest and Newcastle in their last two games and while their home form has been poor this season they will be boosted by how they played against a quality side like Newcastle and scored three goals whilst keeping a clean sheet. If Everton were to win this game they would stay in 17th place because of goal difference however it’s possible that they could move four points from the danger zone.

Had Everton not received the penalty points they would currently be above Chelsea who they face at the weekend. Chelsea are in 10th place with 19 points and already 17 behind league leaders Arsenal. It’s just one win in their past four games and in midweek they were beaten 2-1 away to Manchester United. It’s been a tough season already for the Blues although they did beat Brighton 3-2 last weekend but given that they are 11 points shy of even the top four it’s really looking like there will be no European football next season for a club who has spent a billion pounds over the past 18 months. On the road Chelsea have won 10 points from a possible 21 but have lost their last two games with defeats against Newcastle and Manchester United and the club are leaking goals currently, for all of Everton’s problems this season Chelsea come into this game having shipped four more goals.

Everton vs Chelsea Prediction:

Chelsea are an interesting side but to their fans it must look rather frustrating to have so much quality but have lost so many games already and dropped points. The Blues have the quality to give any side in the league a run for their money, and there is the danger that they will click and punish teams.

However we have to look at what we have, the evidence. Chelsea did look on the up a month ago, but seemed to have retreated slightly and continue to lose games. Perhaps the priority for them is getting back to basics and making sure that they become a force at home again. For Everton we have seen that despite their struggles and lowly position they are on form and have been playing very good football. This is a team who keeps coming forward and keeps creating chances, one would believe that is the last thing Chelsea want. Granted the Blues have a good recent record over the Toffees but we are going to opt for the home side to get at least a draw.
