England Premier League
Saturday 11th January 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park
Match Preview:
No doubt Everton would have been counting down the days until their next match after their FA Cup loss against a very young Liverpool team. Everyone involved with the club will be expecting to see a reaction and a good win.
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti started his tenure at the club with two wins but has followed that up with two defeats and this is a must win match to keep that momentum up. Everton could nudge into the top 10 with a win but the objective at the weekend will be to win the game in front of the Goodison faithful and then see how their league standings work out.
At Goodison Park Everton have a decent record winning 50% of their games. They have gone their last 3 games here without defeat and that is encouraging, beating Burnley 1-0 in their last home game.
Brighton got a good 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea in their last game on New Year’s Day but are still in 14th place. However the league in that section of the table is so close that they are just one point behind Everton and so have the opportunity to leapfrog them here.
Form has improved slightly for Graham Potter’s side and they come here unbeaten in their last two games. However it is worth noting that they have lost 60% of their games away from home, winning just one game in their past five. Their last away game ended in a 2-1 loss at Tottenham, although with VAR having it’s say they were very unlucky not to at least draw.
Team News:
Everton : The club have no new injuries to report coming into this game
Brighton: Dan Burn fractured his shoulder in the Chelsea game and is expected to be out for at least six weeks. Aaron Mooy has a minor knock and will be assessed. Glenn Murray missed the cup match because of a knock and will also receive a late assessment to see if he can play
Everton vs Brighton Head to Head:
Brighton have won the last two meetings.
Last season this fixture ended 3-1 to Everton.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Everton vs Brighton Prediction:
We expect to see Everton produce the performance of their season and the reason was written on Carlo Ancelotti’s face in the post match press conference after the Liverpool defeat. He did for him the rarest of things and discussed his thoughts on the game with the players after the match (usually he does this the next day). He was livid of course and so should the players be, there has to be a reaction and we think Everton will come out fast and furious and put on a display. They know Ancelotti will look to get rid of anyone who's not pulling their weight, especially on the high wages a lot of the senior players are on, so it's up to them to prove they are worthy of a place at the club. Brighton all in all have been average to poor this season, especially away from home, with some bright spots in between at Amex Stadium but maybe it's time for Everton to really wake up this season and under the guidance of one of the world’s best managers actually start beating teams around them, and Brighton could be the first of those.
