Everton vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

The wins are not coming and the games are running out for Everton and when you are in the bottom three at the very least you have to be winning your home games. Though there will be 11 games left to play after this one for the Toffees you get the feeling if they were to lose here that they may not fully recover.

Everton come into this weekend knowing that even a draw could take them out of the bottom three but they are too close for comfort now and they really need to start pushing on. Sean Dyche has helped earn the club 7 points from his first six games in charge and that is not good enough even if there has been an improvement in the side. Everton have gone their last 3 games with no wins after defeats against Arsenal and Aston Villa and last weekend a 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest. While a point away is welcome for a side who have been stunningly poor on the road for too long Everton were leading twice against Forest and couldn’t see it out and that doesn’t bode well for the final two months of the season.

At home it’s seven losses from 13 games played and just four wins so far. Dyche’s side have won 2 of their last 3 home games but after beating Arsenal and Leeds here some reality set in for their last home game which ended in a blunt 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.

Brentford played on Monday and they were involved in an entertaining game with Fulham, finally winning out 3-2. Who could have predicted that Thomas Frank’s side would be above Chelsea and by four points come March but that is the situation and it’s been fully deserved. The Bees are unbeaten this year in the league and in their last 15 games they have lost just once. Recent form could be better with 3 draws from their past five but no one associated with the club is moaning and this weekend they could well move up another 2-3 places and into a European position with victory.

Away form for Brentford is good with six points earned fromtheir last 15 but they are not losing games and indeed their Achilles heel on the road has been down to draws with their majority of results being dominated by them, they have drawn 6 of their 11 games so far. The Bees last away game ended in a controversial 1-1 draw with Arsenal and they have drawn their last two games in a row away from home.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains at 50/50 to return for this one following his hamstring injury. Vitaliy Mykolenko is expected to return after missing the last game through illness. Nathan Patterson looks set to miss out again with a lack of match fitness. Andros Townsend is out long term with his knee.

Brentford: The Bees only have one injury concern and that is of Thomas Stravkosha who has been sidelined for several weeks and remains out with an ankle injury.

Everton vs Brentford Head to Head:

Last season Everton lost this fixture 3-2.

In the modern era the teams have only played each other 5 times and Everton has just one win.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture it ended 1-1.

The last 3 games in a row has seen both teams to score.

Everton vs Brentford Prediction:

Everton will only win games now if they can show the passion and commitment that they showed when staying up last season and we have seen glimpses of it in this campaign, namely the home match against Arsenal. Everton lack the quality up front to make a difference and that is the real worry. All eyes will be on Dominic Calvert Lewin’s recovery but he is rated at just 50/50 and even when he comes back he is a player that can take a few games to get back into the swing of things.

The name Brentford is associated with lower league football but this present side are anything but and are one of the best sides in the league since the turn of the year. Make no mistake if Everton got a point here it wouldn’t do the job required and yet would feel like a small victory. It’s really hard to see past a side not only in form but one that are scoring goals too.
