Everton vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th May 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

Similar to last season it is coming down to Everton’s last home game of the season to save their skins. Everton’s 70 years in the top flight is on the line as they attempt to win here. At least for Sean Dyche’s side their destiny is in their hands, win this and it doesn’t matter what Leeds and Leicester do, Everton would be safe!

It is fair to say that while Everton’s point per average game has slightly improved under Dyche apart from a few glorious moments including beating Arsenal and Brighton Everton’s approach to their football hasn’t changed much and they have largely returned poor results. All of this will quickly be forgotten if they can beat Bournemouth at home though. Current form for the Toffees has been nothing to get excited about with just one win in their past five but performances over Brighton and Leicester have certainly been encouraging.

Bournemouth have been safe for weeks and are in 15th place the worst they can finish is 16th and they have lost their last 3 games. They are the only side to be beaten by Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side and their last game ended in a 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United. Away form has seen 11 defeats from 18 games this season although they had a terrific run of away form back in April winning 3 games in a row and that largely contributed to their safety we see now. A win could see the Cherries finish as high as 13th depending on other results.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury, Seamus Coleman is out with his knee. Tom Davies is rated as highly doubtful with his hamstring. Vitaly Mykolenko will be assessed with his thigh injury, Ben Godfrey is sidelined with his groin injury. Nathan Patterson, Ruben Vinagre and Andros Townsend are all out.

Bournemouth: Philip Billing is being tipped to return from a recent back injury. Joe Rothwell could also return from a knock. Hamed Traore has fitness issues and will be assessed. Junior Stanislas, Antoine Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier are all ruled out.

Everton vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last time the clubs played here Bournemouth won 3-1.

Bournemouth have won the last 4 games in a row.

Bournemouth have scored 7 goals past Everton in the last two meetings.

It’s just 1 win for Everton in the last seven meetings against Bournemouth.

Everton vs Bournemouth Prediction:

The worry is evident for Everton and that is where do the goals come from? Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s absence is a big blow as he was a major influence in survival last season. He had only just returned this time around and is now injured again, and while he wasn’t scoring goals he was holding up play and letting in others. The recent head to heads do not bode well for Everton and by far Bournemouth have had the run of things.

This game needs to be taken differently though and in the context of the current situation. Bournemouth are playing for nothing but at the same time the players may be fired up to be able to relegate one of the giants of English football. The worry for Everton is you can never be quite sure which version will turn up. The team needs to give its all and certainly the fans will be right behind them and try to create a fantastic atmosphere, it saved them last time, can they do so again? We think the answer is yes and the game will be won in midfield.
