Everton vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Goodison Park

Match Preview:

It would be premature to think that the good times are back at Everton but under Sean Dyche its is 3 games and two wins and the club have that feel good factor back, especially at home. They will be happy to remain here and this is another huge game for the Toffees who need to keep proving their worth after a horrific start to the season. For now though having Dyche in charge seems to be one of the best decisions the club has made over the last few years.

Last weekend Everton beat Leeds 1-0 and that was a narrow win however they dominated the game and were well worth the win. It has moved the club up to 16th but there has to remain plenty of caution given that they are just a point above the relegation zone, however form has dramatically improved. At home six points have been earned from their last two games and before hand it was 8 points from their last 10. If Wolves have failed to get the points against Fulham then Everton would go past them with victory.

Aston Villa have been rocked in the last few weeks and there is a reality check after losing their last 3 games in a row. However Unai Emery will have to get behind his troops and perhaps it is not all bad news given that two of the defeats came against the top two sides in the league in Arsenal and Manchester City. Villa still look content in 11th place and have 28 points. Despite some poor form they have showed promise and even though they lost 4-2 against Arsenal in their last game at one point they were heading for a 2-1 win but the Gunners scored two late goals to gloss over that result.

Team News:

Everton: Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back in training but isn’t expected to make this game and remains a doubt. James Garner will be assessed for fitness issues but could return. Nathan Patterson could also return but has some fitness issues and will be assessed. Andros Townsend has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and it’s very likely he will miss out.

Aston Villa: Diego Carlos is the clubs only injury concern. He is returning to training after six months out though and he is highly unlikely to play in this game.

Everton vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Aston Villa won this fixture 1-0.

Aston Villa have won the last 3 meetings in a row and it’s been 7 years since Everton beat them.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Everton vs Aston Villa Prediction:

There has been an uplift all round the club at Everton and the players will come into this game with not just a lot of confidence but also a lot to believe in now and it is very important for everyone associated with them to drive forward. There is always that worry that the wheels can come off again and Everton’s project now will be going clear of the bottom three and pushing on to safety.

Aston Villa cannot be underestimated though and they have become somewhat of a bogey side for Everton to face in the past decade. There is also recent form which once you take out their last away game defeat against Manchester City they were able to win 3 games in a row which included victories over Southampton, Brighton and Tottenham and good ones at that. Villa’s form has taken a hit but he’s been against strong teams, are Everton at that level yet? This is what will be in question.
