Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
The question is was Crystal Palace’s 0-0 draw at the weekend away to Leicester a good result or a bad one? In a sense it was positive to get a point away from home and keep a clean sheet however Palace haven’t started very well and they were playing a team poorer than them this season. Palace will come into this game with no real form and two months into the new season, although they have lost just once now in their last five games.
Patrick Vieira’s side are in 13th place with 10 points and seven of those have come at home so they will be happy to be returning here in midweek. The Eagles have already lost twice at home though but they did win their last game here beating Leeds 2-1.
Wolves are still without a permanent manager but they welcomed their 2nd win of the season this past weekend as they beat hapless Nottingham Forest 1-0 at home. That result ended a 3 game winless streak and the club are in 17th place and just a point above the relegation zone. The big worry is the absence of forward Raul Jimenez and the fact that they have only scored 4 goals so far. Away from home it’s no wins so far and just 1 point managed from a possible 15.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Jack Butland has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and may not be risked for this match. Nathaniel Clyne has an ankle injury and while he hasn’t been ruled out he’s more likely to come back at the weekend instead. Nathan Ferguson also has fitness issues and may not return until the end of the month. Will Hughes will be assessed for illness which led to him missing the last game, James McArthur is out with no fixed return date with a groin strain and Chris Richards is out until the end of the month at least with his hamstring.
Wolves: Raul Jimenez has an on going groin injury and remains out, Pedro Neto has an ankle injury that will likely keep him out until the end of the year.
Crystal Palace vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season Crystal Palace eased to a 2-0 win over Wolves.
Crystal Palace have won the last 3 meetings in a row.
It’s been 4 years since Wolve beat Crystal Palace away from home.
Crystal Palace vs Wolves Prediction:
Crystal Palace have simply bossed Wolves in recent games and being at home and this being a midweek evening game we think they have the advantage. Palace have real zip and pace going forward and despite their position they have played some good football and their best football has to start at home. They aren’t an easy team to beat and this looks like a hard one for Wolves. Wolves of course will be happy to have tasted victory and while that is good the reality is they beat a side in Forest who will probably go down this season. Playing Palace away is a big step up from that and we believe Wolves are going to really struggle on the road this season, there doesn’t seem to be much stability at the club, and that is the same in the goals department also. Palace at home aren’t even odds on and a decent price to win this and we will take on the Eagles to get all three points here but cover the draw on the refund for extra security.
