England Premier League
Sunday 3rd September 2023
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Crystal Palace will be looking to get back to winning ways as they entertain Wolves on Sunday. The Eagles started the campaign with a win away to Sheffield United but have since been beaten by Arsenal and last weekend they drew 1-1 with Brentford. This game will represent the club's second at home. While defence has been good with 2 goals conceded there will be slight concerns on the forward line as the club have only scored 2 goals. Coming into this weekend Palace are in 11th place and the objective in this campaign which is set to be manager Roy Hodgson’s last season is to finish in the top half of the table.
The news coming out of Wolves camp this week was the departure of Matheus Nunes who joined Manchester City. Nunes had only joined Wolves last summer and was on a 4 year contract but this episode just shows the pulling power of the big sides as Nunes went on strike until a deal was made. Wolves began their campaign in poor fashion losing their opening two games but were unlucky to lose away to Manchester United. However they were destroyed 4-1 against Brighton but the following week made up for that by beating Everton away 1-0. Wolves have played some good football despite obvious setbacks and this game is set to be a close one.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Malcolm Ebiowei has fitness issues and remains a doubt, Will Hughes could be assessed but it is likely he will miss out again. Matheus Franca is sidelined with a back injury. Michael Olise is out with a hamstring injury.
Wolves: Joseph Hodge has a hamstring injury and looks set to miss the next two weeks at least. Hwang Hee-Chan has a hamstring injury but could be assessed and hasn’t been fully ruled out.
Crystal Palace vs Wolves Head to Head:
Last season Crystal Palace won this fixture 2-1.
Wolves have not won at Crystal Palace for the last four meetings.
There is a 90% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Crystal Palace vs Wolves Prediction:
The outstanding statistic for this game is the under goal market and given that Palace and Wolves are struggling for goals this could be a banker. Of course it is not a given but it is worth backing the under 2.5 goals. Wolves played well away to Manchester United and were unlucky in that game. They played poorly against Brighton and didn’t play too well against Everton and yet got the win. The bottom line though is that Wolves are not playing great football, a club that try and raise their game against a top six side but could struggle against a side similar to them, this is the little evidence we have presently.
As for Crystal Palace they have key players out but have already shown much like they usually do that they are a strong and determined unit and they won’t be easy to beat at home. In their one and only home game so far Arsenal just sneaked through with a 1-0 win, and that game could well have ended in a draw. Palace have a decent record over Wolves at home and that could be set to continue this weekend, we will go with the home victory.
