Crystal Palace vs Watford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 7th May 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace are safe this season and in fact their objective will be to finish in the top half of the table. Palace’s form has not been consistent enough although they have gone their last two games unbeaten with a draw against Leeds and a good 2-1 win away to Southampton. It is seven points earned for the Eagles from their last five games.

At home Palace’s most common result has been the draw with 8 so far from 17 games played. The Eagles have gone their last four home games unbeaten and we would have to go back almost 3 months since Patrick Vieira’s side lost at home which came against Chelsea. A win here could propel the club up to 10th place although that all depends on other results around them.

Watford will surely be relegated now as all it takes is for Leeds to get 1 point from their last four games and their fate looks sealed and it could be by this game. In short Watford would need to win their remaining four games and hope that Leeds and Everton completely collapse but the Hornets have only won six games this season so winning four looks slim, but even if they did, other clubs are not going to implode that poorly. Manager Roy Hodgson in not so many words accepted the clubs fate this week and he has also confirmed that he will step down from the role at the end of the season and will retire from football too.

The Hornets have a better away record this season as they have the worst home record in the league. The club have still lost 3 of their last four games on the road with their last away game ending in a 5-1 slaughter at the hands of Manchester City. It has been a tough time for the club though who have also had to play Liverpool. But it’s ten defeats so far from 17 games played.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: There are no injuries for the Eagles ahead of this game but Nathan Ferguson has ongoing fitness issues and he looks set to miss out again.

Watford: Craig Cathcart is ill but is 50/50 to return for this game. Tom Cleverley has a knock but will be assessed as it looks minor. Cucho is out with a hamstring injury and is touch and go whether he will return this season.

Crystal Palace vs Watford Head to Head:

Last time the teams played here in 2020 Crystal Palace won 1-0.

The teams last played each other only in February of this year and away from home Palace won 4-1.

3 of the last four meetings has finished in under 1.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Watford Prediction:

We expect Crystal Palace to get a straight forward win here. Palace’s form has been up and down but the club rarely have given a poor performance this season and even when games end in draws they have looked dangerous and the bottom line is Patrick Vieira has a team who keep creating chances. Wilfried Zaha has been brilliant this season and indeed he was last season also. He has this new energy about him and he could well get on the score sheet in this game.

This is a difficult game for Watford and it is one that could well confirm their relegation in what could be a sad day for the club. Then again they will battle in this game but the club have been poor overall and travelling away to Palace is never an easy game, we expect a home win and Palace may even get quite a few goals too, after all they got 4 goals against the same opponents only nine weeks ago.

Crystal Palace vs Watford Betting Tips:

Crystal Palace to beat Watford at 1.62

Anytime goalscorer: Wilfried Zaha at 2.25

Crystal Palace to score 2+ goals at 1.72
