Crystal Palace vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 13th December 2020
Kick off at 2:15pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace are in 11th place but would move into the top 10 with a win at the weekend. However they will be facing the current league leaders and will be the underdogs to win this match.

Last weekend Palace were impressive in beating West Bromwich Albion 5-1. True West Brom have struggled this season but the way the Eagles took their goals and took over the game was still impressive. Having said that West Brom were down to 10 men for the majority of the game.

What was so impressive last weekend for Palace was the duo of Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke showing the club what they can do on their day. Both players grabbed a brace and in Zaha’s case scored wonderful goals. Zaha is a having a strong start to the season and this is giving other players within the team a lot of confidence.

However there are problems at Palace with just a 40% win rate at home and their results have been dogged by inconsistency. Their last home match ended in a 2-0 loss against Newcastle.

Tottenham dare to dream as they come into this weekend in 1st place although that is only on goal difference from the current champions Liverpool. Tottenham have earned 13 points from their last 15 and last weekend beat eternal London rivals Arsenal 2-0 at home. It was another showcase of how brilliant Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane have been this season and manager Jose Mourinho will be hoping that both strikers are on target once again.

Tottenham had to play in midweek in the Europa League where they beat Antwerp 2-0 and they have qualified for the knock out stages, that game was also at home which helped the club. Tottenham drew their last game away from home 0-0 against Chelsea.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson has been a long term casualty with his knee but is slowly getting back in training, no timescale as of yet has been put on his return. Martin Kelly still has his calf problem and is ruled out. Tyrick Mitchell is ill and is a doubt to take part.

Tottenham: Serge Aurier has a knock but could face a late test. An update on Erik Lamela suggests the midfielder could return within the next 2 weeks.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Head to Head:

Last season this fixture ended 1-1.

Tottenham have won 9 league meetings from the last 10.

There is an 80% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

In the league Crystal Palace have not beaten Tottenham since 2015.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Prediction:

This will not be an easy game for Tottenham because Palace will come into this one with confidence after putting 5 goals past West Brom in their last game. The problem for Palace though is that they are not scoring enough goals at home. The Eagles have seven so far but 4 goals came in one game when they beat Leeds. Manager Roy Hodgson will be hoping that Benteke and Zaha can continue their hot form and cause problems for Tottenham but Mourinho’s side has only conceded 3 goals on the road.

Tottenham will be made to work very hard for the win that is one guarantee that Palace will give them, but they should be able to come through this match. Liverpool are playing Fulham and the Reds will be expected to get the win so Tottenham really need all three points from this game. Their devastating attack should do the business.
