England Premier League
Saturday 29th October 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Both teams will feel they can win this game and claim a valuable 3 points so we could witness a very close, physical, chess like game, although Palace being at home will be the favourites.
Crystal Palace come into this weekend in 13th place with 13 points and their last result ended in a 3-0 loss at Everton. That was unfortunate for Patrick Vieira’s side as they had gone 3 games without defeat before the trip to Goodison. At home the Eagles have won 50% of their games so far with two defeats but recent home form has improved and they have just one loss from their last five. The other encouraging point is that they have won their last 2 home games in a row beating Wolves and Leeds and both games ended in the same score line of 2-1.
Southampton are in 16th place but are only a point shy of their hosts which should add spice to this game. After a slow start the Saints come into this game undefeated in their last 3 with draws against West Ham and Arsenal and a win over Bournemouth. Last weekend the draw over Arsenal was hugely significant and a great result for the Saints given that they have only become the second team after Manchester United to take points from them. While the club have won two games away from home they have lost 4 from six and scored just four goals and are almost shipping 2 goals per game on the road. However they have earned the same number of points away from home as at St Mary’s.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Nathaniel Clyne will be assessed but remains a doubt after his ankle injury. Jack Butland is ruled out again with a lack of match fitness. Nathan Ferguson also has fitness issues and is a major doubt. James McArthur is out for an extended period with a hip injury and Chris Richards will be assessed but is only 50/50 to make this fixture.
Southampton: Romeo Lavia has recovered from injury but has fitness issues and will be assessed. Kyle Walker-Peters is out until the end of the year with his hamstring.
Crystal Palace vs Southampton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 2-2.
In the last 3 meetings both teams have scored.
In the last five meetings to take place at Crystal Palace Southampton have won 3 of them.
Crystal Palace vs Southampton Prediction:
Like many teams who may finish in mid table it is all about home form and Crystal Palace will be well aware of that. For example Palace would feel pretty confident to beat a side like Everton at home, they beat them 4-0 in the FA Cup last season and yet last weekend were beaten 3-0. Every game is different of course but the bottom line is Palace need to be ten times their team when at home to gain any traction in the league. It would be a worry for them to lose a game like this but we must remember Palace had just found form before the Everton loss and there are goals in this team.
Southampton’s home form is the same as their away but they are taking points from better sides when at home. On the road we have to reserve judgement for now but at the same time there isn’t much between these two sides. We will be backing to see the home win though. Keep an eye out for Wilfried Zaha who has scored in 3 of the last four meetings between the sides, his price looks very generous.
Crystal Palace vs Southampton Betting Tips:
