Crystal Palace vs Nottm Forest: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th May 2023
Kick off at 4:30pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Both clubs of course are safe with the main difference being that Crystal Palace were safe a month ago and this being their final home game of the season we should consider Roy Hodgson’s side as the favourites here.

Recent form for the Eagles has been a mixed bag although they have been able to collect seven points and lost just once in their last four games. Palace have been able to overtake Chelsea and they could finish with a respectable 46 points although they wouldn’t be able to move past their current position of 11th. Palace’s last two games have seen a 2-0 win over Bournemouth and a 2-2 draw with Fulham.

Nottingham Forest looked likely to go down a month ago but the club found form at the right moment despite a plethora of injuries and certainly their gamble to have a large squad has, in the end, paid off. Forest have been impressive lately and are unbeaten in their last 3 games after wins over Arsenal and Southampton and a draw against Chelsea, that’s no mean feat and you have to tip your hat to them. Away form is still poor though with just 1 point won from their last 15 and indeed with just one win on the road so far they have the worst away record in the Premier League and have won just seven points from a possible 54.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson, James Tomkins, Luka Milivojevic and Wilfried Zaha are all out now for the season. Jeffrey Schlupp is missing due to personal reasons.

Nottingham Forest: Danilo and Felipe are a doubt to return with knocks. Gustavo Scarpa is out with his calf, Jack Colback will likely miss out again due to a head injury. Jesse Lingard has a knock and might be assessed, Dean Henderson is sidelined with a thigh injury. Keylor Navas is out with his groin. Also missing is Omar Richards, Neco Williams and Chris Wood.

Crystal Palace vs Nottm Forest Head to Head:

The last time the teams played here was back in 2012 in the Championship and the game finished 1-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Nottingham Forest won 1-0.

It’s been six games and almost 20 years since Crystal Palace beat Nottingham Forest at home.

Crystal Palace vs Nottm Forest Prediction:

We are expecting to see a good open game and for obvious reasons Palace will try for the win in front of their home fans. However there is a bigger occasion at stake and that is Roy Hodgson the manager. This is most certainly his last game as a manager after a career that has lasted for four decades and the players we believe will give it their all to see that he finishes his footballing managerial career with victory.

It is true that Forest have had some very positive results at Selhurst Park throughout the years but the fact is these two clubs haven’t played one another too much over the past decade and a lot has changed. We expect to see goals and end to end stuff as both sides can relax and try to enjoy their football. Palace have goals in them though and being at home we believe they will have enough in the tank to get the job done against a side who has an appalling away record.
