England Premier League
Saturday 7th October 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Never doubt Roy Hodgson here is a manager who had to watch his Crystal Palace side take a 3-0 thumping against Manchester United in the EFL Cup and yet a few days later at the very same venue, Old Trafford, he oversaw his Palace team avenge that defeat and win 1-0. Hodgson is certainly trying to have a memorable final season as a manager.
Palace come into this game in 9th place and have 11 points and a win could take the Eagles as high as seventh place. It’s just one defeat in their last five and they have been able to earn 8 points from their last 15 on offer. Palace’s last game at home ended 0-0 against Fulham, however Palace’s most dominant result so far has been wins and they have 3 overall from their opening seven games.
Nottingham Forest have neither been good or bad this season but the fact that they have cut their injury list down means that they should stay up. Forest are in 12th place and have 8 points but they have gone their last three games with no wins. This follows draws over Brentford and Burnley but an expected loss away to Manchester City. Forest’s away record does not read well and despite beating Chelsea they have played 4 games on the road and lost 3 of them.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Odsonne Edouard has a hamstring injury but it isn’t thought to be serious and he could be assessed to return in this game. There are no new injuries however the following remain out, James Tomkins, Dean Henderson, Michael Olise, Matheus Franca, Jefferson Lerma and Naouirou Ahamada.
Nottingham Forest: Moussa Niakhate is suspended for this game after being sent off last weekend. Ola Aina has a muscle injury but it isn’t expected to be serious. Danilo is out and won’t return for two weeks from his hamstring injury. Nicolas Dominguez is a doubt with a knock. Nuno Tavares could be assessed but is only 50/50 to return after his groin injury and Ryan Yates remains a doubt to return due to his hamstring injury.

Crystal Palace vs Nottm Forest Prediction:
Crystal Palace at home and with just beating Manchester United should start as favourites to win this one and yet there is one key element that we should discuss. It seems that every side has its bogey team and Crystal Palace’s one is…. Nottingham Forest. Indeed because Palace have played plenty of seasons in the Championship the clubs have played each other fairly regularly over the past 20 years unlike most other Premier League sides. Forest’s record over the Eagles is very impressive. Granted there have been a fair few draws of late but Crystal Palace have only managed to beat Forest on one occasion from the past 11 meetings and that was back in 2011.
Roy Hodgson then will remind his players that a win over Forest is long due and we will back the home side to win this game. Forest’s away form has been too poor lately however Palace will need to step up their game. The Eagles have usually had a strong home record in previous seasons but currently that reads 1-1-1 so they will need to reach another level in the next coming weeks and months at home. The objective for the Eagles this season will be a European place after all.
