Crystal Palace vs Norwich: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 28th December 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace were soundly beaten at the weekend away to Tottenham in a 3-0 loss but it is a fixture that would have left a sour taste in their mouths. Palace had requested that the match be postponed due to the pandemic and the fact that their manager Patrick Vieira had contracted it. This was rejected and it is fair to say that the Eagles came into the game not fully prepared.

That was Palace’s sixth loss of the season that overall has not been too bad and fans may just be quietly content with life under Vieira. Recent form has been a worry though with just 1 victory in their past five. At home Palace have had more joy and have the sixth best record in the Premier League with just one defeat so far though the majority of their results have finished in draws with 5 from the 9 games played. Palace’s last game here ended in a 2-2 draw against Southampton.

Norwich were hammered 5-0 at home to Arsenal at the weekend and to be frank nobody would have been surprised at that result. The Canaries are only bottom on goal difference but there is a feeling that they look like they will be going down this season. Though they are just 3 points behind 17th placed Watford the club have also played 2 games more than them. The defeat against Arsenal was Norwich’s 4th loss in a row.

These are dour times for Norwich even under Dean Smith who was brought in to try and save the day, that simply doesn’t look like happening now. The club are struggling for wins, with just 2 so far and even for goals and we would have to go back to November 30th for the last time they found the back of the net.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha misses this game through suspension after his two bookable offences at the weekend. James McArthur is still out with his hamstring.

Norwich: Tim Krul has Covid-19 and is out. Grant Hanley is out with his shoulder injury and not due back for another three weeks. Milot Rashica has a groin injury and could be assessed but is favoured more to return next weekend. Andrew Omobamidele has an on going back injury and isn’t expected back for another 3 weeks. Lukus Rupp could return after a lack of match fitness and will be assessed.

Crystal Palace vs Norwich Head to Head:

The teams last played this fixture two years ago and Crystal Palace won 2-0.

Norwich have not beaten Crystal Palace since 2013 and it’s been 25 years since they beat Palace away from home.

There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.

Crystal Palace vs Norwich Prediction:

Though Crystal Palace have their problems, this is a game that reminds us of this past weekend’s encounter between Brighton and Brentford, where you have a solid team at home and we believe this game looks very favourable to see a home win.

Norwich do not look behind by much in the league points wise, but anyone who has followed them can sense that the writing is on the wall. That doesn’t mean their poor form will continue and they may find a good run at one point in the second half of the league campaign, but overall they have offered very little and this ground is a very tough one to come too even for some of the top teams this season.

Wilfried Zaha is a big loss for the home side and we can imagine that Vieira will not be ready to oversee the game, so this isn’t ideal conditions for the club, still with the quality they have they will be expected to win this one, and we can’t see past a home victory.
