Crystal Palace vs Newcastle: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 27th November 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Friday night will see Crystal Palace take on Newcastle and the home side will have the opportunity to go seventh with a win.

Palace lost 1-0 against Burnley last weekend and with the way Burnley started the season the Eagles would have been disappointed with that result. Palace had 15 attempts on goal and more possession and would have felt hard done by that they came away from the match with no points but this game has to be the one where they bounce back.

Roy Hodgson has seen some stellar performances from his team but consistency has been lacking. However at home Palace have not been easy to beat so far with just one defeat and seven points earned from a possible 12. The Eagles last home game finished in an emphatic 4-1 victory over Leeds.

Newcastle lost 2-0 at home last weekend against Chelsea and the Magpies come into this fixture in 15th place. That feels too low for the club although they are currently seven points clear of the bottom three. Like their opponents the club are struggling for consistency and manager Steve Bruce will be concerned coming into this match that his team do not make it 3 league defeats in a row.

On the road Newcastle have just one victory and we have to go back to September for that. Their last away game ended in a 2-0 defeat at Southampton. With victory here Newcastle would pass Palace in the league by one point.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson (knee) and Wayne Hennessey (muscle) are long term injuries. Luka Milivojevic is serving the last match of a 3 game ban. Wilfried Zaha is a major doubt as he was diagnosed with Coronavirus.

Newcastle: Callum Wilson is struggling with a hamstring injury but will possibly face a late test. Ryan Fraser has a hamstring injury and remains a doubt. Jamaal Lascelles suffered a thigh injury v Chelsea and will be assessed for this match.

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Head to Head:

Last season Crystal Palace won this fixture 1-0.

Newcastle have not won at this ground since 2013.

The last 7 league fixtures have all seen under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Prediction:

Newcastle and Palace have struggled to get consistent results together and history says this could be a close game. Though Newcastle do not have a great record coming here.

Palace have been difficult to beat at home but will be without Wilfried Zaha yet another player of quality who will be missing for them. We are tempted therefore to back the away side for good value. The Magpies need to set up well and go for this win and the motivation will be the fact that they would sail past Palace in the league.

This is a fixture where either team could win and we expect a very close game.
