England Premier League
Wednesday 18th January 2023
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Crystal Palace will be aiming to become the first team to beat Manchester United in five games but they will have to have some sort of huge turnaround to do so given how poor they have been lately.
The Eagles have lost 4 of their last five games and are now in 12th place and have 22 points. Worries of a relegation fight are not on the agenda as of yet but that could change in the next month if they don’t find form, the problem is that on Wednesday evening they will be playing the most form side in the league. Last weekend Palace fell to their 8th defeat of the season after losing 1-0 at Chelsea the club have also lost their last 2 at home.
The fans at least are believing that Manchester United can surprise everyone and win the league title. There is no doubt that the club have changed their fortunes and are winning games, they have 15 points from their last 15 on offer and they are playing with lots of confidence and scoring goals, they look the part. However the reality is that United trail league leaders Arsenal by 9 points and have played a game more, still we are only at the halfway point and there is plenty of football to be played.
Last weekend was a huge result for Eric ten Hag’s side as they beat Manchester City 2-1 with two late goals and they have scored 5 goals in their last two games. On the road it hasn’t always been convincing however they have won their last two in a row after beating Fulham and Wolves.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Joachim Andersen has a calf injury and will be assessed, Nathan Ferguson is set to miss out again due to fitness issues. James McArthur is out with a hip injury.
Manchester United: Anthony Martial will be assessed due to a leg injury, Diego Dalot looks set to miss out again due to a muscle injury. Jadon Sancho is out with fitness issues and Donny van de Beek will reportedly miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
Crystal Palace vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Crystal Palace won this fixture 1-0.
It’s been almost 3 years since Manchester United last won away to Palace.
The last 3 games have all seen under 1.5 goals.
Crystal Palace vs Man Utd Prediction:
This won’t be an easy game for the favourites Manchester United and they will have to dig deep and Palace have the players to make this an uneasy game for Ten Hag’s side. However with the form they are in and the way they are playing it is difficult to go against United at this point in time. Marcus Rashford has really found his form again and when he is like this there is no doubt he is one of the best players in Europe but he is backed up by real quality in midfield and new signing Antony continues to be impressive, in short there are goals in this team.
This is a fixture that hasn’t produced many goals lately but we think this is set to end and that Palace will play their part and can score. Midweek evening games are never easy for any visiting club, and we expect to see a fast paced end to end game but United should have enough to win. Do they need any more motivation? Well a win here would see them go past a certain Manchester City….
