England Premier League
Saturday 11th March 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Crystal Palace have only won 3 points from their last 15 and last weekend they lost 1-0 away to Aston Villa but many believe that they will be quite a test for the champions at the weekend.
Palace are known for being a tough team to beat at home and can raise their game and in manager Patrick Vieira they have a former Arsenal legend who would love to do them a huge favour and take points away even though of course Vieira also had some connections to City later in his career. Palace will have to be respected as their last home game here finished 0-0 against Liverpool. As far as their league standing is concerned the Eagles are in 12th place- that’s the good news the bad news is that only 5 points is the difference from being in the bottom three.
Manchester City are chasing down Arsenal and are five points behind with the same games played. Form is good with 13 points from their last 15 and they have recently beaten Bournemouth and Newcastle and scored 6 goals in those games. City are in 2nd of course and they look unlikely to be over taken by Manchester United in 3rd place given that there is a 9 point difference. City’s away form has been a concern this season and granted they have the 2nd best away form in the league and have won 24 points from 39 but their bar has been set so high that it is easy to see that the club have not been on the same level that they were on for the last few seasons. Three games have been lost away from home and two of those have been in the last five games. With their firepower perhaps we can even criticise that 23 goals is not enough on the road, Arsenal have two more and Brighton have scored just one less. However we should remember that City have scored 8 goals in their last 3 away games and of course remain a danger.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Chieck Doucoure is suspended for being sent off last weekend. Will Hughes is a doubt with illness, Nathan Ferguson misses out again with a lack of match fitness. Sam Johnstone is out for at least another 3 weeks due to his calf injury.
Manchester City: The club has no injuries ahead of the meeting.
Crystal Palace vs Man City Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 0-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Manchester City won 4-2.
Manchester City has won 12 of the last 17 meetings against Crystal Palace and Palace last beat them when at home back in 2015.
Crystal Palace vs Man City Prediction:
Crystal Palace know how to raise their game against the quality sides and it seems the only way for City to counter that will be to score early in the game, which will mean that they can dictate the pace just like they did against Bournemouth and that is exactly what City need, a Bournemouth performance. We haven’t seen enough of them this season and the odds on price being quoted on City to win this game just lacks value because time and again we have seen City get bogged down and actually watch games pass them by, and that is why they are not top of the league and 10 points clear.
The club also has had to face the fall out of the Kyle Walker story this week where the defender seemed to have exposed himself in a public place, he may be dropped for his actions although that hasn’t been confirmed. City of course has the quality to get 4 goals here and make lightwork of Palace but since the riches came to the club the best result they got here was a 3-0 one in a cup game and in reality the games and scores have been very close this is why we should back Vieira’s side to win this on the hanndicap. You just feel this could be a banana skin game for City, granted there is risk involved but there is also good value too as the weeks go by and City seemingly can’t catch up to Arsenal, time is running out.
