England Premier League
Saturday 6th April 2024
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Manchester City were under pressure in midweek because facing Aston Villa even at home is not a certain prospect of 3 points. There was a chance that Pep Guardiola’s side could have come into this weekend and trailed Liverpool by 6 points, however City got the job done and won 4-1 after a fantastic Phil Foden hat trick. Foden has to be in the running for Premier League player of the year but there is no let up for the champions as they visit Crystal Palace. The champions come into this game in 3rd place and are 3 points behind league leaders Liverpool and just a point behind Arsenal.
Crystal Palace are in 14th place and have 30 points, they are on the path to being safe this season but aren’t quite there yet and have gone their last four games without a win. There have been recent draws against Luton and Nottingham Forest and in midweek the Eagles were beaten 1-0 away to Bournemouth. Palace need to be cautious because it only takes two games for Brentford and Everton to go past them and the alarm bells could sound however at the same time new manager Oliver Glasner will be looking at the 8 point difference the club has over 18th place. At home Palace’s majority result is the loss with 6 so far from 14 games but they have managed to be defeated just once from their last five home games and that came against Chelsea.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Chris Richards is being tipped to be fine after picking up a knock. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is only 50/50 to make this one as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Michael Olise has a lack of match fitness but could be assessed. The following players are out long term; Matheus Franca, Marc Guehi, Rob Holding, Sam Johnstnoe and Chieck Doucoure.
Manchester City: Ederson is being tipped to return from a muscle injury, Kyle Walker is out with a hamstring injury and Nathan Ake is out with a calf injury.
Crystal Palace vs Man City Head to Head:
Last season Manchester City won this fixture 1-0.
It’s been 5 games since Crystal Palace beat Manchester City back in 2021 and it will be 9 years to the day that Palace last beat City when at home.
There is a 60% chance to see both teams not to score.
Crystal Palace vs Man City Prediction:
As you would expect City are 1.30 to win this one and we expect them to do so but the value is not great. Crystal Palace in recent years have actually performed better away from home in this fixture but even when they lose the scores have been quite close. Manchester City are by far the better team but they don’t look like a side that can pull off, for example 5 wins in a row. Foden came to the rescue against Villa but Guardiola dropped Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne the two best players in Europe for their positions and nothing was said, this just shows the influence City has over the media. One would expect both players to be reinstalled for this game. Haaland looks a bit miserable lately, however it would be typical of the Norwegian to bang in a few goals here and silence his critics but we will be looking into different options for this game. As for Palace they look like an average outfit under Glasner, who won’t be judged in the job until next season, but he has hardly lit up any fireworks since his arrival. Dull as dishwasher may seem cruel but Palace look lost at sea currently.
