Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 25th February 2023
Kick off at 7:45pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace have only lost 1 game from their last five but they haven’t won any either. Four draws and a loss means that for Palace it’s all much ado about nothing in 12th place. This is a position that countless observers could have predicted where Palace would be and while the club look safe for now they are also too far from a European finish and they haven’t managed to push on this season.

Last weekend the Eagles drew 1-1 with Brentford and that followed the same scoreline against Brighton. With victory Palace could push past Aston Villa if they lose this weekend and at home from 12 games it’s 4 wins, 4 losses and 4 draws, some statistic has to give this weekend.

Let’s start with the good news for Liverpool who have had their batteries recharged in the league and won their last two games following victories over Everton and Newcastle. Two huge wins for the Reds who have been poor this season. Not only did they damp the party at neighbours Everton they also inflicted Newcastle’s first loss at home this season, in fact Jurgen Klopp’s side are the only team to have beaten Newcastle so far. This means that the Reds have climbed up to 8th place and are seven points behind 4th placed Tottenham, and Liverpool have 2 games in hand over them. All of sudden a top four finish is on.

Liverpool will need a challenge because the bad news is that they have been blown away in midweek in the Champions League by the champions Real Madrid. Liverpool were leading the game 2-0 at home, what could go wrong? Everything. Real Madrid not only came back they taught the Reds a footballing lesson and won 5-2. In football never say never and we have seen some of the most incredible comebacks in the past but Liverpool look like they have exited the Champions League and their season comes down to 4th place.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Sam Johnstone is expected to miss the next five to six weeks with a calf injury. Tyrick Mitchell has a knock and will be assessed. Joel Ward is 50/50 to return from his calf injury. Wilfried Zaha is out for at least another two weeks due to his hamstring.

Liverpool: Joseph Gomez is a doubt with a muscle injury, Arthur could come back but has some fitness issues and will be assessed. Thiago Alcantara has a hip injury and isn’t expected back for another 3 weeks and Ibrahima Konate is out with his hamstring with no fixed return date.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Last season Liverpool won this fixture 3-1.

Earlier in the season the teams drew 1-1.

Crystal Palace have not beaten Liverpool for almost 6 years and when at home that goes back to 2014.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Prediction:

It’s almost become unbearable to see an unhappy Jurgen Klopp and we have seen plenty of these images this season. Liverpool have been brought back down to earth and it is obvious that they will need to use this summer and invest wisely changing perhaps up to half the team. This season looks over for them now and now they fight for 4th place and they have shown in the last few weeks that they can do this.

Crystal Palace will raise their game and make life difficult at times for the visitors but their form is not good and they have a terrible record against the Reds, we see only one winner here. As for goalscorers Mohamed Salah doesn’t look on point but keep an eye out for Darwin Nunez. His cheeky goal in midweek was one highlight for the club and you know the old saying about strikers- once they get one the goals start flowing, he looks nailed on to score at the weekend.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Betting Tips:

Liverpool to beat Crystal Palace at 1.70

Anytime goalscorer: Darwin Nunez at 2.50
