England Premier League
Saturday 9th December 2023
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Crystal Palace lost 2-0 at home to Bournemouth in midweek and this could be the perfect time to play a club who haven’t won a match since the beginning of November. The Eagles are in 14th place and with 16 points they are seven clear of the bottom three but so there doesn’t appear to be much danger just yet but that can change quickly and the club will need to get out of this rut. At home it’s bad news so far with 5 points earned from 21 they currently have the third to worst record in the league which includes losing their last three in a row at Selhurst Park. However victory would take the club up to 10th place.
Liverpool remain solid and are in 2nd place and just two points behind Arsenal, so they would go top for a few hours at least with a win here. The Reds have won their last two games in a row and still have only been beaten once. In midweek the Reds had to put in an impressive professional display in travelling to Sheffield United and beating them 2-0. Whilst the Blades were always the outsiders and are bottom of the league they have installed a new manager in Chris Wilder and new appointments always boost a team. Liverpool have scored 6 goals in their last two games and will come here in a very confident mood as they try to win their first title in what would be four years. Away form hasn’t been very strong for the Reds but it’s not through losing games but by drawing them which they have done in three of their last four outings. Whilst one of those games was an understandable and impressive point against Manchester City it was a surprise to see them also draw recently against Luton.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze is expected to miss out again with an ankle injury. Tyrick Mitchell could be in line to return but will be assessed first. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Rob Holding, Dean Henderson and Chieck Doucoure are all ruled out long term.
Liverpool: Alisson is being tipped to return for this game following a muscle injury and has made speedy progress. Alexis MacAllister is a doubt with a knock and could miss out. Joel Matip has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury. Andrew Robertson won’t return for between five and six weeks with a shoulder injury. Thiago Alcantara remains out for at least 3 weeks more. Diogo Jota is out with a muscle injury and Stefan Bajcetic remains out with a calf injury.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 0-0.
It’s been 14 games since Crystal Palace beat Liverpool going back six years.
There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Prediction:
Alisson returning will be a big boost for Liverpool- immediately defence will feel good again knowing that even though in his absence they kept a clean sheet in their last game they conceded three against Fulham. Joel Matip being ruled out for the season will feel like a blow but not a huge one with respect and Liverpool remain strong despite some injury concerns. We believe this game may replicate their one in midweek, it will be about digging deep for the win because as poor as Palace have been lately they will raise their game for the visit of the Reds.
Liverpool are odds on for this game but at 1.50 they may be acceptable to some punters and possibly in a double with another game could come in handy. Liverpool haven’t scored the most away from home and have drawn many games and let’s not forget both of these games against Palace last season ended in draws. However Liverpool have a lot of motivation with the slip up of Manchester City lately and the fact that they would go top of the league after this game, so we can’t see Palace getting anything from this game.
