England Premier League
Monday 28th December 2020
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
No one is suggesting that Crystal Palace could get caught up in a relegation battle but the club will have to start picking up points as they are going through a bad patch of results which has seen them fall to 13th place.
At the weekend Palace made it back to back defeats as they lost 3-0 to Aston Villa. The score was at 1-0 when Villa were reduced to 10 men at the halfway stage yet Palace with all of their possession still conceded 2 more. The Eagles have not won in 4 games with their last victory coming against West Bromwich Albion at the beginning of the month.
Leicester stopped Manchester United’s 100% away record at the weekend as they fought back twice to draw the game 2-2. It was seen as a good match for Leicester even though they dropped 2 points at home, they never gave up and made life difficult for United further underlining that they should be right in the mix for a Champions League place this season.
The Foxes are in 3rd place with 28 points and have earned 10 points from their last 15, losing just once in their last five. Brendan Rodgers side have the 2nd best away record in the league with 6 wins from seven games played and their only defeat coming against Liverpool. Leicester’s last away game ended in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Gary Cahill has a hamstring injury and won’t play. Nathan Ferguson, Wayne Hennessey, Martin Kelly, Mamadou Sakho and Conor Wickham are all out long term.
Leicester: GCengiz Under will be assessed with a possible back injury but is a doubt. Calgar Soyuncu is hoping to make a comeback for this match after his groin injury. Ricardo Pereira has missed several games due to a groin injury and looks a doubt for this one.
Crystal Palace vs Leicester Head to Head:
Last season Leicester won this away fixture 2-0.
Leicester have won the last 2 league meetings against Crystal Palace scoring 5 goals in the process and conceding none.
However Crystal Palace have won 4 of the last six league meetings.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Crystal Palace vs Leicester Prediction:
Leicester have done so well in the league and yet because of how quick the games are coming if they were to drop points here and then again on New Years Day they could find themselves dropping four or five places. It’s all about consistency, and we have to respect the clubs away form for that and they should be the favourites to win this game.
At times this season Palace have been strong, physical and difficult to break down but this isn’t a great period for the club and if the Foxes can dictate the pace much like they did on their last trip down south against Tottenham they should be able to come away with victory.
Palace can win this game but it is very difficult to go against Leicester at this stage of the season and we will back the away side to get the three points. Jamie Vardy who is having another terrific season has scored 3 goals against Palace in their last two meetings, so we will back him again.
