Crystal Palace vs Fulham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 28th February 2021
Kick off at 12noon GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace beat Brighton last weekend which ended a 2 game losing run, which potentially could have got worse. Indeed it was a huge win for the Eagles and with it they have gone 10 points clear of the relegation zone and should be safe now.

In-between some good form Roy Hodgson’s side have lost two matches against Burnley and Leeds. At home it is just 4 wins so far, with their most common result being defeat, which has happened on five occasions. Palace have also lost twice at Selhurst Park in their last 3 games. What is true is that the club have been carrying significant injuries, which makes their win over Brighton even more surprising. With a win at the weekend the Eagles could move up 2-3 places depending on other results around them.

Fulham are undefeated in their last 4 games and are piling the pressure on Newcastle in 17th place. The gap now is just 3 points. The Cottagers beat Sheffield United in their last game and it was an expected result but was only 1-0 and it was an encounter which looked like heading for a 0-0 result. It was a huge win for the club who have picked up 8 points from their last 12 on offer.

Away form is great for Fulham too who have no defeats this year on the road, that is quite remarkable for a team in the bottom three. However Fulham have drawn 50% of their games on the road and a lack of victories overall is keeping the club down there in the table. If Newcastle slip up at home to Wolves and Fulham win this game, the Cottagers would go into 17th.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: James McArthur has missed several games because of a knock and remains a doubt for this one too. Wilfried Zaha will miss out again with his hamstring and Jeffrey Schlupp, James Tomkins and Connor Wickham are all out long term.

Fulham: Aleksander Mitrovic is back after recovering from Covid-19 and is an option to be picked. The club have no new other injuries coming into this encounter. Though Tom Cairney is a long term absentee with his knee.

Crystal Palace vs Fulham Prediction:

Crystal Palace are not the team that Fulham wants to be playing as they are so unpredictable and can be hard to break down. Also Fulham do not have a good record against Palace. However the good news for Fulham’s perspective is that their opponents look like they will be safe this season and may not play with as much urgency.

Fulham have to be respected as they keep battling to stay up but Palace manager Roy Hodgson an old hand at the game will have a lot of respect for the young manager Scott Parker in what he is trying to do for the club. Fulham will be the team fighting and it is why the bookmakers have installed the Cottagers as the favourites despite being the away side. However they are also the team under pressure, and Palace can take advantage of that by playing on the counter as they like to do.

This game could well end up as a draw, but with the value being with Palace, we can cover a win or draw for the home side which should be considered given they are still up against a bottom 3 side and have home advantage.
