Crystal Palace vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 26th September 2020
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

What an intriguing match we have on our hands on Saturday when Crystal Palace do battle with Everton at Selhurst Park.

Both clubs have started fantastically well and have maximum points after two games. Palace beat Southampton 1-0 and then shocked everyone when they went to Old Trafford and beat Manchester United 3-1. Wilfried Zaha who forever looks like he is going to leave the club every summer has made one of his strongest starts of his career, scoring 3 goals already and though having some long term injuries Palace have not seem to be affected by this on the pitch. Manager Roy Hodgson could not ask for anything more at this present time.

Everton have beaten Tottenham and then last week beat West Bromwich Albion 5-2. They have also reached the next round of the Carabao Cup by beating Fleetwood, also by 5-2 and they will play West Ham in the next stage. But Everton fans will be bemused, it isn’t often they see their club score 10 goals in 2 games. Manager Carlo Ancelotti did not pick a weak team for the visit to Fleetwood where Everton would have been expected to win before the game, and the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were given starts up front. This suggests that Ancelotti wants to win trophies this season with a club who have gone 25 years without one.

For some a glance at the league table may feel like 80s nostalgia with Everton right in the mix with their great rival Liverpool, the question is how long can they keep this up for?

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke is back in training and played for the under 23s as a warm up but it would be a surprise to see the player selected for this game, he may be assessed and get a bench start though. There is hope that Jairo Riedewald will be back for this game after missing the start of the season through a muscle injury. Sam Woods has a knock and missed the last game but we will be assessed for this one.

Everton: The only new injury concern for the Toffees is with Jarrad Branthwaite who has an ankle injury and will miss at least a month

Crystal Palace vs Everton Head to Head:

For the past two seasons this fixture has ended 0-0.

Everton have not lost at Selhurst Park in 26 years.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Everton Prediction:

Both teams have started so well and will be determined to keep their unbeaten records for as long as possible. We expect a very tight game much like their recent encounters here and a touch of magic could win it for either side. Wilfried Zaha has found some and Everton have James Rodriguez.

We do not expect many goals if any, a 1 goal margin could seal a game whose main battle will take place in midfield. A game of chess kind of match with perhaps few chances. We have to respect Palace’s defence conceding just 1 goal so far and keeping Manchester United mostly at bay. But there is something about Everton right now, a famous club trying to rise like a phoenix from the ashes, and we will back them to win a very close fought match but cover the draw for extra safety.
