Crystal Palace vs Everton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 12th December 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

After a bright start to the season one has to wonder if the Eagles wings are being clipped? Crystal Palace come into this encounter with no wins in their last four and that includes three straight losses. Palace’s last victory came almost five weeks ago and they have fallen down to 14th place.

The good news for the neutral is that Everton are in 13th and only two points separates the clubs heading into this game. Last weekend Palace lost against Manchester United although the score only finished 1-0. United were the better team but Palace had their chances too and frustrated the Red Devils. At home Patrick Vieira’s side have drawn most of their games, which is currently 4 from the seven played and have only lost once so far. That defeat came in their last game here as they lost to Aston Villa.

Everton would have been feeling on top of the world last week as they won their first game in over two months beating Arsenal at home. The victory was even sweeter because they had been trailing Arsenal by a goal and had had two goals disallowed themselves because of minimal offside. But Everton dug in deep and showed passion and equalised and then scored the winner in injury time. Suddenly the fans believed again and Everton will travel down to Palace hoping to keep that change of attitude up.

At this time it only takes 2-3 wins to see a significant change in your standing and this is what Everton will be hoping for after almost flirting with the bottom three before the Arsenal game. Form is of course poor for the Toffees but again for them and that vital win this is about living right in the moment and hoping to build on last week’s victory with another win here.

On the road Everton have four defeats and have won only once, they come into this match having lost their last 3 away games. Everton’s last away game was a defeat against Brentford in a game that finished 1-0 to the Bees.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Joachim Andersen is only 50/50 to make this game after his recent hamstring injury but has been pencilled in to return for this encounter as is James McArthur.

Everton: Yerry Mina has a calf injury but it isn’t thought to be serious and he has a chance to make this game and will be assessed. Salomon Rondon has a hamstring injury and hasn’t been ruled out but is only 50/50 to make this game. Dominic Calvert-Lewin isn’t expected back until Boxing Day and Tom Davies is out long term with a knee injury.

Crystal Palace vs Everton Prediction:

Overall Everton’s season has been disappointing so far, and though life under Rafa Benitez had started well the club seem to have fallen into the trap which engulfed them last season under Carlo Ancelotti and the worry is that this could be a long hard season for the Toffee’s. But in the win over Arsenal there was clearly a different mental attitude within the team. But question marks should remain over the club when they play away from home. Certainly against Arsenal the Everton players really reacted to the home fans who never gave up on the club and perhaps Everton’s poor home form last season could be contributed to the lack of fans because of the pandemic. But Everton will need to take more points on the road if they want to reach their objectives under Benitez.

Crystal Palace will get back on form the question is when? The club have quality in their team and when they click they can give any team in the league a game but they seem a little fatigued at the moment and even dazed and we will be backing the visitors on the handicap in this one.
