Crystal Palace vs Burnley: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Form for Crystal Palace has been slightly improving but in their last game all of that hard work behind the scenes clicked as they ran out 4-1 winners against Watford. In truth the game was quite close but Wilfried Zaha struck not once but twice to seal up a much needed victory for the Eagles who had gone their previous four without a win.

For Palace they are looking very safe in 11th place with 29 points and with so many teams below them there doesn’t look any danger that even a poor second half to the campaign would mean the club suddenly struggling. On the contrary Patrick Vieira’s side will be looking to finish inside the top 10, though they are 4 points from that objective. At home the majority of Palace's results have ended in draws with 5 so far from 13. The worry is that the club have lost their last 3 home games in a row with defeats coming against West Ham, Liverpool and Chelsea, is this the game for the club to bounce back and also win two games in a row?

One has to wonder what Burnley are still doing in the bottom three? They have been good all round and not many teams in the Premier League are working as hard as Sean Dyche’s side. Indeed on recent form the club would be in 7th place which says it all for a team currently in 18th. Burnley are pulling off some very good results with just one defeat in their past five games and that was only a 1-0 loss to Liverpool. In midweek Dyche’s side frustrated and beat Tottenham and that was enough for Tottenham manager Antonio Conte to have a press conference meltdown.

On the road Burnley have won just 1 game and picked up 8 points from 36 but again we need to speak about their recent form and we can see that a poor record starts to turn good and the club is undefeated in their last two games which is good going for the position they are in.

The best case scenario for Burnley at the weekend is a victory and for Newcastle, Everton and Leeds all to lose and if that happened Burnley would go into 15th place but with the way they have been playing it is very possible that the club could at least leave the relegation zone with a win, so there is so much for the club to play for, though of course this is still a very tricky match.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson is about four weeks away from a return, Vicente Guaita has a knee injury and is being tipped to be fine but will need to be assessed. Joel Ward has a knock and is touch and go to make this game.

Burnley: Maxwell Cornet is only 50/50 to return from a foot injury, Gundmundsson is out with his calf and Matej Vydra is out with a hernia.

Crystal Palace vs Burnley Head to Head:

Burnley won this fixture last season 3-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished in an entertaining 3-3 draw.

It’s been five games since Crystal Palace recorded a win over Burnley.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Burnley Prediction:

Palace downed a relegation threatened team in midweek and so the question will be can they do it again? This is a unique match up because we have two teams who aren’t expected to create much during the season but two teams who can beat anyone in the league and give them a game. This is why we have a game that could be intriguing. Burnley are not afraid and they are focused and while Palace will come into this one as the favourites we don’t see any here and the value could be on the current form side, what more motivation do you need than finally breaking out of the bottom three?
