Crystal Palace vs Burnley: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 1st December 2018
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace will host Burnley on Saturday afternoon and Roy Hodgson will be hoping that his Crystal Palace side can take some heart from their terrific result last weekend. That match was against Manchester United where the Eagles against the odds earned a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

It was only Palace’s 2nd point in a month and with the team now returning home and playing Burnley who are out of sorts and out of confidence there will be a feeling that they will be able to get the job done. Palace who are in 16th place on 9 points could climb a couple of places depending on other results with a win here. Form is poor with just 2 points earned from their last five games and at home they have yet to win a match and have only won 2 points from 18, thus they have the worst home record in the Premier League.

Burnley lost on Monday night at home to Newcastle 2-1 and not only is this next match against Palace away but the home side have also had two extra rest days.

The teams are neck and neck on 9 points apiece and in fact have the same records in the league so far. Sean Dyche’s team has just 1 win on the road all season which came against Cardiff and they have no wins in their last 3 games away from home.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Christian Benteke is expected to miss this game but is making great progress since his knee injury. Connor Wickham will be assessed ahead of this game after recovering from his thigh injury.

Burnley: Gudmundsson could feature after missing the game v Newcastle due to a bug. Nick Pope is hoping to feature after a lack of match fitness has kept him out of the team for the past few weeks

Crystal Palace vs Burnley Head to Head:

Crystal Palace won this fixture 1-0 last season.

From the last 3 games played at Palace the home side have one just once.

The last 3 meetings has a 100% success rate for under 2.5 goals.

3 out of the last 4 meetings has had the highest scoring half in the 1st half.

Crystal Palace vs Burnley Prediction:

Palace probably edge this game as the slightly better team at least in spirits, and when we think they have held the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United lately that is good going. But a shadow hangs over the club in the fact that they have yet to win a game at home. Surely this can’t continue, they are playing decent football at times and play Burnley whose confidence must be shot to pieces. We have to opt for a home win, but if the game was to end in any other result it wouldn’t be a surprise. A difficult game because we are witnessing Jekyll and Hyde type of teams which underlines why the bottom half of the league is so tight.
