England Premier League
Saturday 11th February 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
After losing 2-1 away to Manchester United in their last game Crystal Palace have slumped in form and have picked up just 2 points from their last 15 on offer. The Eagles come into this weekend in 12th place and with 24 points they are six in front of the bottom three and for now they are on course to have a typical Palace season, no real immediate danger of relegation but also no chance of finishing in Europe. Manager Patrick Vieira is working hard and has done a solid job but the worry will be that progression is not being made.
Home form for Palace has seen 4 wins but also 4 defeats and 3 draws and their last two home matches have ended in draws. Those were not terrible results given that the opponents were Manchester United and Newcastle but fans will want the feeling of victory again but that is not assured against a quality side like Brighton.
The Seagulls have 10 more points than their hosts and are in 6th place after a superb first half to the season. They have won 10 of their 20 games so far and are unbeaten in their last 4 winning three of those. Brighton’s last game finished in a 1-0 win over Bournemouth and they have a chance to close the gap on Tottenham to just 2 points with victory here. Away form has been very encouraging too with 50% of their games won and again they are unbeaten in their last four trips. The clubs last away game ended in a 2-2 draw with Leicester.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Joachim Andersen is out with a calf injury with no fixed return date, Nathan Ferguson looks set to miss out once again due to a lack of match fitness. James McArthur is a major doubt for the same reason but may be assessed. Wilfried Zaha is out for at least another 10 days due to his hamstring.
Brighton: Levi Colwill has been pencilled in to return for this game but he is struggling with a muscle injury and remains a doubt. Evan Ferguson has a knee injury but will be assessed. Adam Lallana looks set to miss out again with his muscle injury. Jakub Moder is not due back for another month due to his knee injury.
Crystal Palace vs Brighton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 1-1 and in fact 3 of the last four meetings has seen the final score end 1-1.
It’s been almost 4 years since Brighton beat Crystal Palace away from home.
There is a 90% chance to see both teams to score.
Crystal Palace vs Brighton Prediction:
Crystal Palace have not been convincing enough but they have had some tough fixtures lately and we know that they can raise their game against teams in form especially when at home. Having Wilfried Zaha on the sidelines, well any team would see that as a blow and Palace are trying to navigate the loss as best they can. They are up against a very strong opponent though who has a lot of confidence. Palace can certainly have their moments in this game and while Brighton will be tipped to win this one Palace can be tough at home and they have proven how tight they can be at the back in some recent home games.
Witness how Palace conceded just 1 goal against Manchester United and Newcastle lately, so for us the value is on the home team. Granted Brighton are solid and showing no fear but away games in the Premier League remain tough and we think with some risk albeit that Palace can get something from this game and end Brighton’s very good run. Recent history is with us too and Palace have avoided defeat against the Seagulls in their last six games. Both teams to score should be taken on as the high success rate should not be ignored.
