Crystal Palace vs Brentford: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 21st August 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Roy Hodgson was probably on holiday with his feet up when he heard the news that Crystal Palace lost 3-0 against Chelsea and were utterly outclassed, and he would have thought that he made the right decision to retire from the game. In has stepped Patrick Vieira and he knows he has an uphill struggle on his hands.

Let’s not be too harsh though because Palace’s objectives are going to be to aim for mid table and at least finish with the same if not more points than last season. They have just faced the current European champions and a 3-0 defeat away from home to them isn’t the end of the world. A defeat here though would signal the disappointment button.

Brentford look like they are going to be the entertainers of the league, much like Leeds from last season. It may not last long but unless you were an Arsenal fan last week just for the sheer joy of football that was indeed joyful to experience. The Bees beat Arsenal 2-0 on the opening day of the season and were well worth their victory.

Brentford will come into this game with a spring in their step knowing full well their own objectives for this season, finishing 17th will be seen as success but you get the feeling that this club who are back in top flight football for the first time since 1947 are aiming for higher.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Luka Milivojevic is unavailable due to personal reasons. Michael Olise and Nathan Ferguson are out long term.

Brentford: Mathias Jensen has a foot injury and no update has been given, but he missed the start of the season. Josh Da Silva is out with a long standing hip injury.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford Head to Head:

The clubs haven’t played each other since 1977 when Crystal Palace won 5-1 in a League Cup match.

Because of the gaps in time of playing each other Brentford haven’t won at Crystal Palace since 1957.

The teams have never met in a top flight game before.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford Prediction:

This game will show us how well Brentford may do this season. It is one thing to beat Arsenal at home and indeed it was a great result but it is these matches that are the difference between staying up or not. The Bees come into this game with confidence and are going to give Palace a hard game.

All of the pressure will be on Palace and after the game Vieira will either be the hero or zero with home returning fans, it is how football works. The value for us is in goals and the away team and whilst this will be a very difficult game for Brentford it might be worth taking them on with small stakes. Also look into their striker Ivan Toney who performed so well in the Championship last season.
