Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Wednesday 6th December 2023
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Form for Crystal Palace has seen just 4 points earned from their last five games but they were able to stop a two game losing run by drawing 1-1 away to West Ham. This was seen as a good result given that they were losing that game. The Eagles are in 12th place and if results fell into their lap over midweek they would push past a couple of teams including Chelsea so this game could well be significant. Currently Roy Hodgson’s side are 9 points clear of the bottom three and look safe already but they will remain weary of recent poor form but will be happy to be back at home. Having said this home form hasn’t been good enough with just one win here and 50% of their games ending in defeats. Only 5 points have been won from a possible 18. But this could be an opportunity against a club below them to kick start their home form.

Bournemouth are in 16th place with 13 points, that’s the bad news but the good news is that the Cherries have found form coming into this game. It’s just one defeat from their past five and they are undefeated in their last three games with wins over Newcastle and Sheffield United and in their last match they drew with in-form Aston Villa. On the road though the club have struggled, with just 4 points from six games they would rank in 18th place on away form alone. They did win their last away game against Sheffield United but in fairness that isn’t a high bar this season and they are conceding an average of 3 goals per game on the road.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: Eberechi Eze is out with an ankle injury, an update on Chieck Doucoure has suggested that his Achilles injury may keep him out for the rest of the season. Rob Holding is out for at least the next six weeks with an ankle injury. Dean Henderson and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi remain out with no fixed return date.

Bournemouth: Emiliano Marcondes will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness. The following players remain out long term; Ryan Fredericks, Lloyd Kelly, Alex Scott, Maximillian Aarons and Tyler Adams.

Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last season Crystal Palace won this fixture 2-0.

Crystal Palace have remained undefeated at home to Bournemouth for the past five games going back to 2016

The last 5 meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Crystal Palace showed a lot of character to come back against West Ham who themselves were finding form. Palace also have a good recent record over Bournemouth and we feel they have a decent chance of winning this game at home. Home has not been kind to the Eagles so far but they have too much quality and know-how for that poor record to continue. Bournemouth have impressed lately but are still not convincing on the road, so a victory for the home side seems to be the way to go here.

Odsonne Edouard scored last weekend for Palace against West Ham and he already has six goals this season, one more and he has beaten his tally for Premier League goals in a season and this campaign is looking like being his most successful in a while. The recent goal would have given him confidence and he is excellent value to score in this game and that could even be your main choice.
