Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 27th November 2021
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Selhurst Park

Match Preview:

Crystal Palace have really raised eyebrows lately and have come away with some solid results, they come into this game unbeaten in their last five. Still Palace are in 10th place and would have thought by their recent efforts to have been placed higher. Victory at the weekend should be able to push them into the top 10.

Last weekend Palace managed a 3-3 entertaining draw over Burnley and the week before they stunned everyone by beating Manchester City at the Etihad. You get the feeling that the Eagles will be happy to be back at home as they still remain unbeaten. However 70% of their results here have ended in a draw. Patrick Vieira’s team’s last game at home finished in a quality 2-0 win over Wolves.

Aston Villa are all a buzz at the moment as they have Steven Gerrard in charge and the former Liverpool great got off to a sensational start with Villa as he won his first game in charge ousting a battling Brighton side, winning 2-0 in the end.

That ended a terrible run of results for Villa who come into this game in 15th place. Indeed victory here would put Gerrard’s side on the same points as Palace but they would need a good win to go past them because of the current goal difference.

On the road Villa have the worst record in the Premier League with just three points earned from a possible 18. This includes losing their last three in a row. At the same time we are in a situation now with Dean Smith gone and Gerrard in where it is probably correct to dismiss past results and form.

Team News:

Crystal Palace: James MacArthur and Nathan Ferguson are struggling with fitness issues and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they both missed out here and could be weeks away.

Aston Villa: Douglas Luiz has a muscle issue and is being pencilled in to return for this game but could miss out. Trezeguet is out long term with a knee issue.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Crystal Palace have won the last 3 meetings when at home against Aston Villa.

There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Of course this game will see Crystal Palace take on Aston Villa however the media will probably focus on two former great players and rivals in Patrick Vieira and Steven Gerrard going head to head.

Palace will be wanting to continue their solid recent form but with clubs like Palace they can experience highs and lows and one has to wonder how long Palace’s form will stay for. As for Aston Villa the players will be up for this game after getting a vital win over Brighton. It clearly wasn’t just the 3 points but also to get a victory in the first game for the new manager would have been huge and one can only imagine the dressing room afterwards.

This is a new game, a new week and we think Gerrard will set up cautiously here against a very tricky Palace side, that is why we like the value on the correct score to be goalless at half time. Thus the game could well open up in the second half and this market should also be taken on.

For further value we will look into the goalscorers market because taking a result here could be very difficult and close. A draw looks possible and although Villa will be up for this game we have to respect the fact that Palace have seen out their games at home and this isn’t an easy place to come too, therefore we give the edge to Palace.
