England Premier League
Sunday 16th May 2021
Kick off at 12noon BST
Venue: Selhurst Park
Match Preview:
Crystal Palace lost their 16th game of the season in midweek as they went down 3-1 at Southampton. The club have 41 points and are in 13th place and will probably finish in this position as they have slipped 4 points behind Wolves.
Of course Palace could easily fall to 16th place at least if they nose dive any further and that could be on the cards given that they come into this game having lost 4 from their last five. The Eagles will at least be happy to return home for this tricky encounter one suspects.
At Selhurst Park this season they played some good football during February and March however the Eagles have lost their last 2 matches here and really do need a pick me up.
Aston Villa look set to miss out on a Europa League place even if they have a strong finish to the season given that there are so many teams still above them. However Villa may just be happy to be on the road as they have picked up more points away from home this season. Indeed Dean Smith’s side have won 8 games from the 17 played so far and they won their last away game to Everton 2-1.
Defence wise Aston Villa have been interesting away from home and have conceded 15 goals, that’s less than Chelsea or Leicester and like quite a few teams with no fans present this season Villa have really benefited from playing away from home more than in their own stadium.
Team News:
Crystal Palace: Connor Wickham, Mamadou Sakho and Nathan Ferguson all remain out. James McArtur is also struggling to return. Patrick van Aanholt will miss this encounter due to personal reasons.
Aston Villa: Jack Grealish could be ready to return to the starting lineup after coming on as a sub in Villa's last match. Morgan Sanson will be assessed.
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
Last season Crystal Palace won this game 1-0.
Aston Villa have won 3 of the last four meetings.
There is a 70% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Crystal Palace are in poor form but that hasn’t always reflected their football on the field. The clubs problem has been not being able to hold onto a lead it is something they will need to work on but the season is winding down now.
Aston Villa continue to blow hot and cold and just lack consistency but we feel they can get something from this game, especially considering the managed to beat Palace 3-0 earlier in the season, and that was only with 10 men for half the game. Palace just seem to already be in holiday mode, therefore the edge has to be with the away side in this enounter, and we'll go for history and back under 2.5 goals.
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
